in general it seems linux doesnt' support plug and play ESATA yet. so you need to have the drive connected and turned on when the machine boots. that way linux detects it as a regular sata drive. you also shouldn't unplug/power off the drive until you shutdown linux.

if you've done that and it still isn't seeing it, it could just be a matter of it not getting mounted automatically, or your kernel may not have sata support built in/modules loaded.

i understand, but just because it works in windows doesn't mean it works in linux without some fiddling. if you've explored my suggestions, then you might just want to start googling to see what you can find. i get the feeling you misunderstood my suggestions so i would urge you to go back and look at them again.

what version of linux do you run? You may want to upgrade... I'm running ubuntu hardy. Upgrading has made dual monitor support a possibility for me...

I would try a google search:

Esata300 driver ubuntu hardy
esata300 driver ubuntu dapper
esata300 driver redhat

etc... until you find a linux O/S that was going to work plug and play easy with your hardware. I am not familiar with esata300

If you are running ubuntu... check their official forum; I get all my patches and fixes there and then just run them through the terminal; cut and paste.

ubuntuforums.org...

also... ubuntu wiki

www.ubuntulinux.org...

also

www.linux-drivers.org

or perhaps you can find a driver that is close; and recompile it... when it works... share it... that's what linux is all about.
