What happens?

Will I look out the window of my house in my suburban neighborhood and see humvees driving up and down the streets while US soldiers march up and down the sidewalks? Will all citizens be forcefully evacuated out of their homes? at gun point? hand cuffed? loaded on to over crowded, prison busses? What will happen to those who resist? Killed on the spot? Taken to facilities with higher security? Am I going to have to sleep on a cot in my old highschools gym for weeks on end with limited supplies of food? Will we all be shipped to camps? The FEMA camps?

...What do YOU do?

Me? I run... Yea, they'll probably find me... eventually, but so what, I'm not going to unwillingly give myself over to the government. I figure, hey, if they find me life is gonna be hell...Why not at least TRY and get away...Live life for as long as you can in some forest or something...

I'll die before I'm sent to a prison camp completley stripped of my freedom.

YOUR TURN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, let me tell you, I live in Louisiana and what you are suggesting pretty much describes what went on in some of the areas here during the aftermath of Katrina. I was not in the New Orleans area at the time, but still in an area that had a lot of destruction from wind.

You could not go any place, the grocery, the bank, a gas station, without there being armed military people every where for months!

They did not come knocking on our doors for weapons where I am, but they did to people in New Orleans. People who did not want to leave their homes because of pets were forced to, and just shoved on a bus, not even knowing what the destination would be. They were farmed all over the country without ever knowing where they were going before getting there in some cases.

I can picture what you suggest happening, and for people that don't think it won't, and have forgotten about Katrina victims......you'll see if a disaster hits your area!

Wow..I had heard stories about what was going on in New Orleans after Katrina but being in California didn't experience any of it first hand...Or anything even remotely close. It seems like things going on on one side of the country have very little effect on what is happening on the other side.

Fortunately , this is something I have changed for myself.

Man, that's pretty scary to hear that's how the Katrina situation was handled. Imagine a scenario like that but instead of being looked at as helpless or in need of assistance by the military you are looked at as a threat.

Oh, it was awful!

Martial law in New Orleans was very strict, as orders to shoot and kill were given for anyone found outside after dark. Contracters going to work on damaged homes had check points to go through, where they were searched coming and going from jobs.

There are still Fema camps set up where people have been in trailers since that time. Going on 3 years now. Those that have been kicked out of them are moving back to the city with no jobs, no homes. Crime is worse now than it was before the storm. I was offered a time share from somebody who couldn't use it for Mardi Gras, but I declined, because even a free room couldn't get me to set foot in that city! There are still some National Guards posted there.

It was just crazy. Like a nightmare, and surrealistic. Something you would never expect to happen in America.
