So i just received an email from the Ron Paul campaign. It's pretty much the only newsletter i subscribe to that i actually read, everything else gets deleted including ATS stuff most of the time i am embarassed to say.

RP finally and directly addressed the issue of whether or not he would consider a third party run. He confirmed that he would not seek a third party run because he doesn't want to threaten his Congressional position, which is he simultaneously running for. He recognizes the fact that he'll not get the GOP nomination, but wants to use the delegates he collects in an effort to have some leverage in a brokered election. So, basically, any vote against McCain is a vote for Ron Paul, because McCain will need all the help he can get. If he can negotiate with the right to get the nomination, he can negotiate with Ron Paul delegates and hopefully implement some of his more attractive ideas.

It saddens me a bit to know he won't consider a third party run, but i'm also oddly inspired by his ongoing commitment to the revolution. I hope his supporters take up the cause in future elections in the Congress and Senate.

What are your thoughts?

You see this is the kind of discussion I want to have about Paul not the endless obsession with scarping the Fed and MSM ignoring him. Thread flagged and stared.

IMO some of Ron more moderate policy's such as ending corporate welfare could appeal to the wider population . But even some of his moderate policy's stand little chance of being implemented. If Paul supporters want him to have any real influence they better start supporting MMP.

What are your thoughts?

Even the GOP has a Kucinich.

I think that Paul and Kucinich should team on a independent ticket in 2012 or 16. Combine that with a widespread grass roots movement that supports the US becoming a representative democracy and we could see the beginning of a sea change in the US political landscape.

Cheers xpert11.

My thoughts are....

The Ron Paul Fantasy is OVER!

He was nothing but an internet fad.

It was an uphill battle from the start. From the beginning, he did state that even if his odds aren't good, his goal includes educating people and spreading the message of freedom (in its real sense) and constitution. IMO, his message was heard by a lot of Americans, and this is what the revolution is all about.

Like others have said before, it's not all about Ron Paul, it's about the ideas he brings about. Let us hope the American people do not forget his message any time soon.

Thanks for the constructive input.

Ron Paul isn't a fantasy, you know? He's a real live person with real live ideas that other real live people happen to agree with to the point that they were willing to donate large sums of their own money. The vast majority of soldier donations came to Ron Paul for his ideas regarding pulling out of Iraq and the 700+ military bases around the world. His limited government ideas resonate throughout not only the GOP but independent voters and Democrats who merely THINK they're democrats (i used to be one of those).

I don't think any of those ideals are a fad limited to the internet or any other medium. If you want to resist the Ron Paul revolution that's fine, but you have to understand that the revolution is coming one way or the next.

It'll come when people move away from the losing battle for the GOP nomination, and turn their attention toward more regional races such as the house and senate races. Simply put, it's a lot easier to convince one district than it is to convince the whole nation at once.

The only fantasy is/was that he would win. That is IT.

All the hard work and donations were real, the people involved were real. This cause did not get famous because Ron Paul got 4% of a vote in some place, it was famous because it got people off the sofa/internet and involved. Ron Paul had the most visible and motivated supporters of any candidate, he has/had the most people actually involved in his grassroots out of any candidate. That is the story!

I know I got 10 times more out of the Ron Paul Grassroots Campaign than I put in. Like anything else you volunteer for, you learn from it, you meet people, and if your lucky you believe in it and get a wonderful feeling because you were a part of it.

I was so disillusioned before meeting fellow Ron Paul supporters, it was probably getting unhealthy. Now I know what it's like to work hard for what you believe in - and no internet hater, or mainstream media pundit can ever take that feeling away from me.

I've just viewed a few ron paul videos on youtube of him on fox and what not, and it is.. beyond bafflement to me, that the american people cannot see how blatent they are in trying to belittle him without ANY facts at all! How we have been dumbed down to this extent is.. beyond my comprehension, even if we our brains are being attacked by the many multiple facets available.. how can people not see the truth here?
I say we all go and make our voice be heard.. if it results in our deaths so be it! perhaps someone other than fox news will get video evidence of it and who knows what can happen from there.. elch...

If he were out, he could use the Presidential donations for his Local Seat.
He isn't doing that.

He's still in the running.
From 11 candidates , down to three..One of them Is Ron Paul.
One is extremely Liberal, and is the Neo-con Favorite.
The other Leans towards some sort of Theocratic style democracy.

The third, wants to eliminate income tax. rescue Social Security, Win the War in Iraq by not bankrupting the USA. restore habeas corpus, restore personal liberties, stay the heck out of YOUR life, and the lives of other counties.

And he is still running.

There seems to be a small miscommunication her. I just listened to a RP update on youtube, he is not quiting and he is still in it for a win-win for either his congressional seat or the presidency.

His words were "its not over, till its over"

Down, but not out for the count.

I am going to the March. I'm sick of being silenced. Go Paul.

Current Delegate count:
McCain - 789
Ron Paul - 14
Remaining Delegates - 774

If Ron Paul wins 100% of the remaining delegates, he'll still be behind McCain.

Ron Paul needs to tack the "Abandon Hope All Ye Who Enter Here" sign up above the front door of his campaign office. It's impossible for him to win. I repeat there is absolutely no way he can get the nomination, what-so-ever.

Go ahead and vote for him if it makes you feel good, but you might as well stay home and watch the rest of the country decide your fate.

See, this is where i have a problem. I accept Ron Paul's fate as a candidate who will not get the nomination. That's okay, there's only one winner and he was a long shot from the get-go.

But i would still vote for him if my primary were coming around now, because it makes me feel good to exercise my freedom of choice. I think it's flat out wrong to dissuade people from voting for the candidate of their choice the way the MSM has always done. It's not limited to this election, and it's not limited to politics.

Hi, DBates:

I'm just wondering who you'll be voting for while deciding America's "fate."

Ron Paul supporters stand behind a man with principles. Please enlighten us, using your obvious vast knowledge, which other candidate on either side can make the same claim? As far as I'm concerned, all the other choices we've been given are political "players" and nothing more. Ron Paul is the only candidate who owes no political favors. Give Ron Paul supporters another choice of a candidate who wants to restore the constitution, back our currency by something other than military might, close the borders, reduce the size of the Federal Government, repeal INCOME TAX, and spend money in America to restore the nation's infrastructure.

Which brings to mind that the nation's infrastructure is a good analogy for the state of America's economy. They're both crumbling. But we can SEE the infrastructure crumbling with every pot hole our tire encounter in the roads we drive on.

So please, please, please tell us who to vote for.

When I first started to spread the word about Ron Paul, I was surprised at how quickly the people absorb what they are told by their sources of information. The few people who knew who he was said, "He'll never win. I don't want to 'waste' my vote." The well-oiled machine of the corporate controlled Government has chosen the front runners who will, under the guise of "fixing" what is "broken" in Washington, will cowtow to the same lobbyists that have caused a continuance down the path to facism via corporatism that the nation has been on for the last several decades.

I've stated before that people like you make it very difficult to support the platform that Ron Paul has made his message. But my mind always goes back to the fact that I will do whatever I can to make this nation right for my kids. I want to ensure that a draft is not re-instated. And I want them to stand chance that there will be a "middle class" when they are old enough to leave the nest.

You and your ilk will probably not read this. Just try to imagine it being spoken to you in the voice of Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh, and maybe it will have some effect.

Couldn't we please add a button which would allow an edit to a thread title, so the OP doesn't have to feel embarassed.

Embarassed is a funny word. It always reminds me of the quote by St. Bonaventure, "An example from the monkey. The higher he climbs, the more you see of his behind."

That's exactly what I'm talking about, Cyfre.

Don't you agree that you should be able to edit a thread title?

Maybe we could get some "Super Moderators" to take action on it.

Sean Hannity is annoying, and I've only listened to Rush Limbaugh about 2 times in the last year. You've got the wrong guy.

You know I don't have anything personal against Ron Paul. If he would have actually resonated with the public and picked up some votes I would actually consider voting for the guy. At this point, it's not helping the GOP for Paul and Huckabee to hang around. They're just splitting the party and delaying McCain's presidential campaign against the dems. It's looking like it's going to be Obama who is even more liberal than Hillary. I'd just like to see the Republican party unite behind the candidate of choice and make a great effort at keeping the Oval Office conservative.

Thompson was my candidate of choice. I just have to accept what I'm given and move on.

See, i just don't think the Republican party is going to be uniting this time around. Moreover, i see a bigger divide in the party in the future. I think the conservatives are slowly being pushed out of the GOP to make way for those pesky neo-cons who think there should be an American presence everywhere, and who think spending is bad only if it's carried out by the Democrats. I mean, we elected a conservative president this time around and he has spent more money than Clinton i'm sure. How can you trust a John McCain to spend less? How can you trust a Romney, or a Huckabee who wants to solve our nations problems by building more roads while our bridges collapse and our children get a sub-par education?

I don't think politicians should be afraid to spend money so long as they do it where it should be done for the good of the people, not their business partners
