This come from Kathleen Geier, who is herself an Obama supporter.

Obama supporter Kathleen Geier writes that she's "getting increasingly weirded out by some of Obama's supporters. On listservs I'm on, some people who should know better – hard-bitten, not-so-young cynics, even – are gushing about Barack…

Describing various encounters with Obama supporters, she writes, "Excuse me, but this sounds more like a cult than a political campaign. The language used here is the language of evangelical Christianity – the Obama volunteers speak of 'coming to Obama' in the same way born-again Christians talk about 'coming to Jesus.'...So I say, we should all get a grip, stop all this unseemly mooning over Barack, see him and the political landscape he is a part of in a cooler, clearer, and more realistic light, and get to work."

I see the point yet I think it is a bit of an over zealous response to these happenings. My personal take on the matter is simple. Democrats had a really HARD time with Bush in office for 7 going on 8 years, I know I am one of them...well kind of...

The campaigns of both Obama and Clinton are like rays of sun light shining though dark clouds that have hung over my perceived political landscape for far too long. I have never been this giddy with the process of choosing another president.

While peoples mannerisms and behavior is often weird and even a little creepy, talking about Obama's campaign as messianic in nature is silly, IMHO.

Ummm, ok.

This lady has apparently run in to a bunch of weirdos. I've never heard someone say 'coming to Obama'.

But, I guess knowing how messed up things are now, he is coming across as a bit of a saviour for some people.

I also think this might be blown out of proportion just a bit.

Just DO NOT ask any unwelcome questions!

I received a call from their headquarters the other day, and after listening to the almost unbearable sales pitch from a rep. I asked him one question, "Why did Obama refuse to place his hand over his heart during the national anthem?"
The rep. did not know about this and went to get a supervisor,

I had assured the rep that I was in no way being disrespectful and that I just wanted to be an informed voter.

So when the supervisor came over I could hear him explain my question and it was then that I heard the super mumble something and the receiver was slammed down in my ear.

One more point, he is black.

It is apparent that many blacks are rallying simply because he is black.

People want change, and he represents a great change racially because he is black.

What more can you say for Osama Barrrack Obama? He is black, but perhaps the time has not come unless the blacks want to see him take responsibility for all of the mistakes of the past 8 years.

Why Obama? Because he is Black.

Even though I'm risking getting yelled at again, since the post is here, I'm going to respond.

It's good to hear that the media's info has gotten to you too. 'Inexperienced'. That is literally what you're going to go off of here?

1) Obama has several times more legislative experience than Hillary does.

2) He is going to have an entire cabinet of people working with and for him who are the best and most experienced people in the country. Believe it or not, it's not just him.

3) Please explain to me, what exactly you expect different with 'Hillary's more experience' other than what Hillary's campaign has said.

4) Here, perhaps some reading can do you some good, since you are apparently getting your info from the Hillary campaign and a ridiculous media:

But a Dec. 26 New York Times story revealed that during her husband’s two terms in office, Hillary Clinton did not hold a security clearance, did not attend meetings of the National Security Council, and was not given a copy of the president’s daily intelligence briefing.

Yeah, she sounds like she was racking up TONS of experience the first time around.

Obama’s accomplishments are more substantial and varied than Clinton suggests. And he has a longer record in elected office than she does, as a second-term New York senator.

Please take the time to read this. Your views are skewed: www.slate.com...

Please your responses are rather simple and there is plenty of evidence to support other claims. Yes african americans like Obama ( I LOVE how you threw in the Osama, how very right-wing talking point of you
) and more power to them , I could care less. Women seem to be flocking to Clinton for the same reason, that is because she is a woman. In neither case does it dismiss their potential as a candidate or as a President.

Yes, you're right. Everyone in the office knows the TRUE reason, and keeping with the cover up, they hung up on you to keep the truth from coming out.

Do you know how many people these guys talk to? You obviously came across as an Obama hater and they didn't want to deal with you. So making it sound like some kind of Obama cover up is ludicrous.

It's good to hear that the media's info has gotten to you too. 'Inexperienced'. That is literally what you're going to go off of here?

1) Obama has several times more legislative experience than Hillary does.

Can you show me how and where?

2) He is going to have an entire cabinet of people working with and for him who are the best and most experienced people in the country. Believe it or not, it's not just him.

That is not the point he will be leading this cabinet and his surrounding staff

3) Please explain to me, what exactly you expect different with 'Hillary's more experience' other than what Hillary's campaign have said.

Well if your above statement is true then Hillary is not more experienced.
However Hillary has more bargaining power on capitol hill than Barrack Obama now I am not saying that he will not be a good candidate someday just not today

4) Here, perhaps some reading can do you some good, since you are apparently getting your info from the Hillary campaign and a ridiculous media:

Hillary had no reason to hold a security clearance as first lady.
why should she have attended national security council meetings again no point as she would have no influence.
and why on earth would she need a copy of the daily intelligence briefing

But a Dec. 26 New York Times story revealed that during her husband’s two terms in office, Hillary Clinton did not hold a security clearance, did not attend meetings of the National Security Council, and was not given a copy of the president’s daily intelligence briefing.

his experience consists mostly of voting present instead of yea or nae as the president you can't just vote present or bad things happen..

(should we go with the launch Mr president, Yes or no sir? Obama answers "Present")Ha

As to whether or not my views are skewed is subjective i did not say that I would vote for Hillary either I wouldn't I am a republican and I want to keep my money plain and simple..

A question I have for you is how is Obama planning on paying for his Ideas he has provided only vague outline of his plans and you can bet you will pay more in taxes almost guaranteed..

Thanks for the responses. This article just piqued my interest as I have long felt that we select our political leaders more by emotion or perception than an informed logical decision.

What triggered me to post was it awakened a memory of the "Neamiah Scudder" syndrome put forth by Robert Heinlein in some of his writing.

The political messiah that will solve all our problems just by being such a perfect specimen and having only our best interests at heart.

You could easily include all the candidates into this assessment.

Inexperience is Hillary's ploy. So using that argument against Obama makes it sound as though you are a Hillary supporter.

And yes, just what we need, another Republican running the show. You are concerned about higher taxes, yet McCain is for a perpetual war? You must be joking. A perpetual war will raise our taxes more than anything Barack has on the table.

I can't really comment on Huckabee, I actually don't really mind his change in taxes. Romney isn't going to last much longer.

And hell yes to Ron Paul.

I wish some people would do some even rudimentary background searches on the candidates they worship. Although not as nearly as corrupt as the vile Ms. Clinton, Obama still made the top 10 corruption list for 2007 according to Judicial watch, a government watchdog organization.

Top ten corrupt politicians

He's even got a crooked land deal like his protege Hillary. It's amazing to me that anyone would stoop to voting for a corrupt politician no matter what party they are from or what they tout as their policies.

I still think Ron Paul is the best of the bunch.

If the choices come down to Clinton, Obama, or Mccain - what then?

Try to choose the lesser of evils or vote your convictions regardless of if your choice has a chance at the polls?

Perhaps we could consider selecting a president by the same criteria we would use to hire a CEO for an international multibillion dollar corporation.

Application, resume', background checks, security clearances, final selection by committee, serves at the pleasure of the committee.

Antar, I agree wholeheartedly. I have spoken to several Blacks about Obama, and they all admit to voting for him because of his color. It's an impulse. To me, it is entirely racist, just as voting for Hillary Clinton based on her gender is sexist. We are now in a era where reverse racism is possible on a great scale.

All, you may be interested in this thread.

AAhhh yes. We have that. It's called a constitutional republic.

It's peopled by a representative democracy that constantly jostle for position and advantage while endeavoring to put forth as little effort and personal cost to maintain the system.

Not to overlook attempting to slant the selection and administering process to most greatly benefit their personal interests and agendas.

But it's by far the best means of managing entropy I have ever experienced.

Again, this is nothing new. Look at McGovern supporters for the 1972 election. Yup, cult like. Any campaign that hopes to start out on a grass roots level and actually get somewhere - I hate to say this - needs people to take it like religion. They need to be 100% there, all in. Or there is no hope. There probably is no hope anyway with the propaganda machine out there. Here we have the "muslim" "terrorist" with no experience, when in '72 McGovern was attacked as a weed lovin' baby killin' amnesty givin' anti-christ. By his own party as well. History repeats, and the reason? It is all mapped out.

Of course, it's a given that people will, no matter what, vote for someone for a stupid reason.

You can't tell me that nobody was going to vote for Edwards because he's a white male, can you? So turning it into a race thing is getting out of hand.

No matter what, people will always vote for someone who they have something in common with, or because of a stupid reason.

If Eva Braun was up there running, people would STILL vote for her because she's a woman. It's unavoidable.
