It doesn't take much to derail a presidential bid in the early stages of a campaign. That's especially the case when you're a Black man running for president, your name is Barack Obama and you're running against the prohibitive favorite, Sen. Hillary Clinton. In the early days of his campaign, Obama-bashers were looking for any evidence that Obama was a dangerous Muslim hiding anti-American tendencies.

Some urban myths have truth. Look at this link.

There may be others, but what struck me about the "exploding whale" urban myth was that it perpetuated on the internet. Interesting! It was proven true some 25 years later and it had to do with a, I say this tongue in cheek, a government cover up.
The question then evolves to what topics on ATS are myth....and when will be find out if any are, in fact, based upon truth?

The flag incident has been covered in earlier threads. One ATS'er produced a copy of the U.S. code, which does, in fact, say that you're supposed
to put your hand over your heart when the national anthem is played. But I didn't know that, most people don't know that, Obama wasn't aware of
that. I was taught you cover your heart during the pledge of allegiance, but no one ever said anything about the national anthem. Even if Obama was
anti-American (and there's no proof of that at all)I don't think he would show it by disrespecting the flag.
The question of whether Obama is, was, or ever has been a Muslim has also been discussed on these boards. He was exposed to many different religions when he was young, and twenty years ago he joined Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago. He has never been a Muslim.
