Where do I start ? I live in the UK and way back in the 60's I became friendly with a University student who was really into experimenting with alternative means of propulsion, as could be used in space travel. After he got to know and trust me over a period of a couple of years, he confided to me that he had been working with electromagnetism to this end. He then invited me into his garage and showed me a couple of objects with I will now describe.

The first was a very heavy solid steel cylindrical rod about 8 ft long and around 6 inches in diameter, and the last foot or so of one end of this had been turned into an onion shape, ending in a very fine point. He explained that he had had this pointed shape precisely machined as it enabled him to obtain a very high discharge from that end.

The other object was a block of solid steel, which I would describe as being about 12 inches long, 8 inches wide and about 5 inches tall. It had been drilled horizontally completely through the centres of its width and length by a 1/2 inch hole, so that these channels intersected at right angles in a cross shape at the centre of the block. I hope I have explained that ok.

Anyway, he went on to explain that when he had being doing some experiments he discovered a sort of universal force that pressed equally from all sides on any object in the Universe, and his breakthrough had been to make a type of valve ( ? ) that could control this energy. He explained that when he fitted one of these closed valves to each of the four openings in the steel block the force was equal. However, when he opened the valve at one end of the block, it moved in that direction.

After that evening several weeks passed before he contacted me again. He then told me that he had finished work on the valves and had invited his Physics Professor to witness his steel block's maiden flight ! He described this as placing the steel block on a 45 % angle wooden ramp in a isolated place and then opening the upper valve. He said that the steel block slowly started to rise then rapidly accelerated until it was quickly out of sight. He explained that because this had been a small experimental model, there was no way to cotrol it after it launched, and a scaled up manned version would obviously have built in controls.

Finally, he told me that the Professor had been very worried by what he had just witnessed, and had gravely warned him not to repeat this experiment. Curiously, he added that there had been a huge power cut in the area where he lived at the time of his experiment.

I am just posting this for hopefully general discussion, but I swear what I am telling is the truth.

Note to Mods. I was not sure where to post this, so please move if required. Thanks

Hello Enddays, I'm presuming you lost contact with the guy, any idea what happened to him? What happend that made you lose contact with him?

Sorry Corum, I should have explained that he quickly left the area not long after that experiment. Please remember that this was in the 1960's, before emails and mobiles, and I never heard from him again. In later years, what intrigued me about this was the power failures at that time , as they only later became linked to possible UFO side effects. Thanks for the reply as I am a noob

well i would have to say from the sounds of it it was either regular type of rocket from the thrust chamber explanation, or he was just messing with you b/c if a "universal" force where to push a block to the right there would have to be a force equal to the left so it wouldn't move normally. but this "valve" just seems to be a thrust chamber.

I knew a guy who thought he figured out how to revolutionize space travel by a unique form of splitting a atom. so he called many professors (this was at ERAU) who where leading experts in propulsion and spacecraft design. he went through his presentation finally when he was finished a freshmen raised his hand and asked why his base equation was wrong.....turns out the months he worked on this theory where waisted.

sy, but i mean a universal energy enough to power a rocket with a "valve" seems awful fishy.

i assume you would be in your 60's... and i have never seen a 60+ year old use the word noob... maybe newbie but not noob...

In college physics, we made a device that would shoot steel rods several feet with electrical power. When the teacher found out what we were doing, he stopped us.
