Well first what is the reason for RATS? To keep tha 'others' out? If that is so then the 'others' will get in no matter what. To keep the newbies out, well they will get in eventually. To confine the area to minimum damage? It doesn't happen.

I have been a member of the super secret top secret forum for a week now and nothing has been different has happened from the regualar forums.
Hate me, love me! I am not here for you!

haviung to pay atleast 3500 points is like a net,

to keep the wakos and kiddies out...

i think they should make it so you have to reqeust to get in, or you could have a vote where you need so many "points" from other people to get in..

Jonna, oh yes you are. With the great boom in new members in the last 2 months, of which I'm one, I have noticed a lot of inane stuff. It's good to know that there is still a place you can go to for inteligent thought. I'm in for Really Way Above Top Secret. 20,000 points. It will take me a while to get there but it would be worth it.

It is my HUMBLE opinion that Smirkley has it right. The RATS forum is designed to give safe harbor to those who have put forth the effort to have their "classified stuff" put up for review by our esteemed membership SANS the fear that it will be all over the web and spammed.

Just my personal thoughts on the matter obviously... I say the minimum should be 20,000 points. But WHO am I?! Nobody... (JUST the way I LIKE it!
)

PEACE...

It's taken me like two months just to collect these points, so I must be doing something wrong if some people can get 3500 in one month or day. LOL

I agree with you, springer, althought the price should be 10k points AND a recomendation. Collection of points doesn't mean one posts quality material, nor does it mean one has teh level of maturity, etc. that seems to be expected from RATS. Any idiot can stirr up a little dust and earn points to buy his way in.

Surely a masonic method would work best?

Any 'initiate' needs a proposor and seconder, then the person is put to the democratic ballot of say ten other members. Fair I think.......

Don't feel bad. If you are doing something wrong I am right there with ya'

Progess is slow for me but reasonably steady. Still anxiously holding out for the SETI points = ATS points thing myself. POW! and I'd be in

i can understand making it a buy in , i can even understand a admin or mod referal system, what i don't get is why is there a "secret RATS society" at all, is it really any better to segregate and make a club about things to the exclusion of folks who have signed up to chat/post here ?....kinda retarded logic, unless there is a real conspiracy

The idea is more that its a secure forum to discuss any sensitive things members might come across. Away from the prying eyes of Search-Engine Spiders or Guests.

HOld it, I think 3500 points is good enough. If you raise it higher, you'll just have more junk threads. Too many of them as it is.
Now, a recommendation, on the other hand, I could live with. If you can't convince one senior member of you worth, you don't get in.
I hunger for the truth.

Requiring 10,000 points will have one of two effects.

Either one, you will see a very sharp increase in the number of junk threads as every new guy and his uncle will try their darndest to scrape up points.

...or two, everybody will lose interest, and nobody new will ever show up. The forum will stagnate, atrophy, and die.

It's like some sick combination of inflation and gangrene, if you think about it.

My 2 cents... The mods and admins should pick a select few or one person to see if a person wanting access is suitable or not by viewing previous posts and such. There seems to be a lot of rambling going on by people just to get in.

3500 is a reasonable amount for access, or like it was stated, there will be lots of junk posts made just to get the points.

Whatever your reason for the cost factor, wouldnt a researcher with information to add be an acceptation to this rule unless the entire Rat's forum is bogus?

Did you not read Kano's explanation?

Is there some reason you can't post your knowledge (as a researcher) in the appropriate ATS forum for now? Like Kano said RATS only disallows spider bots and those not willing to make a commitment to ATS from viewing potentially sensitive material.

Don't fall into the latter category. Commit to ATS with quality posts and you'll be in RATS in no time.
