WASHINGTON, Jan 15 (Reuters) - The United States will send an additional force of about 3,200 Marines to Afghanistan this spring to help NATO troops and Afghan security forces confront rising Taliban violence, the Pentagon said on Tuesday.

A move to send another 3000 US marines into Afghanistan. What do you make of this story?

It could be as simple as the British troops in Helmand needing reinforcements for the "battle season" of July- Sept.

However when i heard this story, i immediately thought that this was a move by the pentagon to place 3000 specialist combat troops into the theatre for a possible invasion of Iran.

US troop presence in Iraq and now increased levels of troops in Afghanistan hint to a possible military deterrent to Tehran or a subtle move towards war.
