Yes, you make good points, but I like to have serious (and sometimes not so serious) conversations about SERIOUS matters. Posts like 'I am God' or 'Satan works with the gov't' I think put a bad name on this forum. I think it shows that, with all the actual conspiracy discussions going on here, that some of the people are as crazy as loons.

In other words, with these types of threads, and all the people who are flagging and agreeing with them, it makes ATS look like a 'crazy person' forum, instead of an alternative thinker one. And before you say anything, I know 'alternative thinker' is a pretty loose phrase, but I think you know what I mean.

Believe it or not, this thread warms my heart and is solid proof that The Above Network, LLC and its premier property, AboveTopSecret.com will enjoy tremendous growth in the New Year and tremendous opportunities to discover the TRUTH.

In this one thread we have the signal that we are doing things right.

That "signal" is when both sides of an argument complain that we are doing things wrong or that their side is under-represented on this site.

In this one thread we have one "skeptical" person who is complaining about how the "True Believers" are taking over and getting all the attention and we have a a "true believer" complaining that the site has been overrun with Skeptics.

Absolutely PERFECT considering we built this "city" on utter editorial agnosticism. ATS has NO OPINION, ATS has no AGENDA, ATS is the collective of the human minds that participate within its TAC.

You won't see any of the Three Amigos or the staff "pushing" a particular agenda EVER. We will step in and enforce the TAC which a few misconstrue as "taking sides" because they don't understand human communications or social grace.

WRT these "cult threads taking over ATS", I can't help but giggle when two threads out of over THREE MILLION are pointed to as evidence.

I do hope everyone has a GREAT YEAR and a wonderful journey toward the truth.

Once not too long ago there was a thread, which I read before the mods could remove it, that cracked me up. I'm sure it would have offended some, but I found humor in it. I could just see some skinny hairless 20 something that lived in his mother's basement, dancing naked on his bed playing air guitar and singing the (what he posted to start the thread) words to "Jesus Built My Hotrod", which I am guessing was an original composition. (No, I didn't save that thread, and all I'll say is use all the "dirty" imagination you have at hand, and you'll be close to this song.)

Hahaha!!!!!

No not an original composition, that's an old song by Ministry, who do a lot of satanic thrash-metal type stuff.

Hilarious imagery there

Yes, and you bring another good point. WHY do they post this info with the intent to scare, even after being shown evidence AGAINST their insane theories?

Just having some fun?

Trying to get people to repent?

Too blind to do some research on their own?

Trying to sell books?

Trying to promote their website/teachings?

And I hope to hear more about this "Icke Cult" and what that loon David Icke has started. I swear to God, if people start dying by this cult's hands, that will be another big notch down in my faith of mankind.

About the premise of the thread, well I think it's kind of silly.

I mean, no one can make you drink the kool-aid or sequester you away from your family and loved-ones over the Internet, right? Where's the harm?

Sure there are lots of threads with people espousing weird religious dogmas and things, but the solution is simple - if a thread gets too weird or silly, simply unsubscribe from it, and it goes away!

Ha-Hey! I got one of the big fellows down here now. Thanks for chiming in! I just used those 2 threads because I was just in a bad mood yesterday and they really stood out in my mind as being the most recent examples of this.

I don't really consider myself a 'skeptic', I'm willing to accept the possibility of SEVERAL alternative ideas, as long as there's more than a shred of evidence. I actually consider myself to be quite gullible, as I've done my fair share of jumping on the bandwagon without doing some research first. Something ATS has helped teach me to avoid. (Also thanks to Major Malfunction). It's some of these completely far out, totally false w/o any evidence threads that are starting to look a bit ridiculous.

Anyway, this is the first thread I've started that I've heard from one of the 'Big 3', so thx.

BTW, if you REALLY like this thread, I'm always open to some applause

I can see what you mean, but it's not necessarily true. I would consider those here on ATS to be more vulnerable to such things because they have a broader mind than most. And don't tell me the internet is harmless, I think we all know that's not true.

Thanks.

We have plenty Cult members here on ATS. Everything from people denying a New World Order is in plain view to people claiming secret societies are good! Lmfao

Its nothing really, just a few people trying to spread the word about a good ol brotherhood who loves Babylonian mysticism and Egyptian craft. Nothing out of the ordinary there.

But users are in complete control as to the content they decide to get into.

If gullible people are wilfully getting into wacked-out religious dogma and baseless ideas and being harmed by them, one could argue that it's their own fault for choosing to get into it in the first place!

In case anyone has missed my previous post please read it here

Nope, No Cult Here - these two threads are the result of the religious crap that has been pounded into the minds of every human for more than 2000 years to keep us in check and to keep us from evolving spiritually.

Simple As That.

Now let me rephrase it to make my point more clear.

Take a good hard look at the two threads in question......because these kind of threads show the ugly truth of what a mental prison that any religion on earth will put on your mind body and soul. Not to mention the dreaded spell of narrow mindedness that will infect you.

And yes if you have not noticed......religion is built on the idea of controlling the masses with fear from the very beginning. So we may see more and more people pushing this doom and gloom stuff as people they run around infected with fear, all thanks to religion.

Now don't get me wrong, I believe there is going to be major changes between now and 2012.......any frigging idiot should be able to put 2+2 together by now and figure that out. But I believe in it all being positive, being positive is the only way to keep moving forward.

I am sorry if I sound like I am ranting and maybe I am just a little, but I am so sick and tired of religion infecting everything. Maybe I am like this because I grew up Mormon.

Anyway........ Down with religion
And up with our True Spiritual Self.

I admit that I'm a member of a cult, a cult of one. It's all about me and no, you can't join. Go start your own damn cult.

I think of ATS as a life distillery. We take stories and news of the day and toss them in the vat for awhile to let them ferment. Some of us throw in the sugar while others toss in some barley and others toss in the grapes, (usually sour.)

At the end of the thread we have distilled some spirits. Sometimes we get champaigne while other times we get Boones Farm Strawberry Hill wine.

Either way we get both a buzz and a hangover.

I wouldn't miss a day of it though. I love this site.

I confess to starting all the cults on all the sites world-wide. As Al Gore was creating the internet i was by his side creating niches to give cultists a place to attach themselves. You should all be grateful that i saved all the highsounding. moralistic and intellectually superior positions just for you. We cultists have our standards too. Normally i leave attitudes at altitudes alone but it seems ATS requires one to post 25 times to become a first class citizen. Here is the secret, its clled life, monopoly, chutes & ladders,it is all a game. Illusions that hide us from harsh realities that all these foolish cultists are trying to address in their foolish and haphazard ways. There is only one secret, all else is derived of it.

Hey debris, you really know how to pick a name. Your rhetoric follows your insignificance.

edit: OK I'll play nice and try some of mrwupy's "Boones Farm Strawberry Hill wine".

*cough* *spit* *gag*

On second thought...

Dude, where do you get this stuff?

What's the deal with all the cult-like talk going on here lately? Does the new year have anything to do with it? or the war? or the election? or the upcoming 2012?

This is very bothersome that at such a mainstream place to discuss conspiracy theories, I feel like people are trying to recruit me to join in with their 'cults'. I mean some of the thinking here reminds me of the Salem Witch Trials with people dying because others had these outrageous beliefs.

Check this out:

cult (kŭlt) Pronunciation Key
n.

A religion or religious sect generally considered to be extremist or false, with its followers often living in an unconventional manner under the guidance of an authoritarian, charismatic leader.
The followers of such a religion or sect.
Obsessive, especially faddish, devotion to or veneration for a person, principle, or thing.
The object of such devotion.
A system or community of religious worship and ritual.
The formal means of expressing religious reverence; religious ceremony and ritual.
A usually nonscientific method or regimen claimed by its originator to have exclusive or exceptional power in curing a particular disease.

Obsessive, especially faddish, devotion to or veneration for a person, principle, or thing.
The object of such devotion.
An exclusive group of persons sharing an esoteric, usually artistic or intellectual interest

Now tell me how this thread:

www.abovetopsecret.com...

And this one:

www.belowtopsecret.com...

With a combined total thus far of 13 flags and 8 stars, DON'T fit into the above definition of cult.

Will people believe EVERYTHING that's told to them? Are they really THAT desperate to believe?

This so called 'cult' that you are insulting is Love; those believers aren't 'desperate to believe', those believers have come to an understanding that many cynical people have not come to. Apocalypse does not mean 'destruction' nor 'end', it simply means 'understanding'.

"What is ATS made of?

Blurry photos, bad quality YouTube- videos, CGI's and tinfoil conspiracy theories.

That's what ATS is made of.

But seriously, there is maybe 0,1% of all the started threads that are worth looking into. Those are the reason I still come to this site.

Those who have knowledge of the truth and can convey such knowledge should try to take the time and make sure people have the truth.

In other words, don't you think you should:
help the helpless
