Economy is growing. Unemployment is under 5%. The war in Iraq
is almost over. We had VE day. We had VJ day. Now Victory in Iraq
is on it's way. Our future has never been brighter!
------Republicans will win the White House again in November!-------
President Fred Thompson!

I'm not sure what all your figures are, how you determined this, or who you heard this from; but, average pay and employment rate aren't the only things calculated into the strength of an economy. The US stock market is rising.
Inflation is usually constantly up and down, but it is currently high.

The US dollar is falling on the international market and some countries are probably considering dropping their US dollar holdings. Many countries are also pegging oil along with other goods trades against the Euro or their own currency instead of favoring the dollar, with more countries no doubt watching the dollar closely to protect their own financial status. These international trading impacts will also change the economy to a more noticeable difference if more countries follow suit.

The US public debt is at 9.2 trillion dollars, we can't just continuously increase our national debt forever.

Some portions of the economy are strong, but the long term impactors are still fluctuating..

Wasn't the war "almost over" in August of 2003?
We have higher unemployment than Mexico, Malaysia, Estonia, and Bangladesh, and this is a good thing?
The "economy is growing" is an exceptionally vague thing. What parts are growing? McDonalds jobs are on hte rise but careers are going down, down, down.

The USA is an economic superpower.
We are also a military superpower.

The $9 trillion national debt is manageable.
Our understanding of the economy has never been better.
By harnessing the power of the underground economy,
we will be able to pay down the national debt FAST.
We will also be able to fund Medicare/Social Security easily.
All we have to do is get rid of ALL paper money and
tax every point of sale 2 cents.

Knowledge is power.

What parts are growing? Drop by Apple HQ in Cupertino and
ask them if the USA is heading for a depression/recession.

They will probably tell you to put down the bong and go play your
iPod. The Iraq war will 99% over by October 2008.
That spells V-I-C-T-O-R-Y for republicans and D-E-F-E-A-T for
democrats.

I find it quite convenient that you have a spaceship in your avatar; you clearly are from another planet if you think we aren't in a recession. The bean counters and all these economic guru's claiming that we may enter or that we are sound economically are idiots. Spend one day in and around Detroit (or any other working-class city); read the papers, watch the news, talk to the people and you will find out quite quickly that recession is reality.

As far as Fred Thompson for President; do you determine his suitabililty based on his acting ability? Best I can tell, that's the only presidential skill he possesses. I personally need a bit more than that to jump on the bandwagon...Ron Paul '08 and a real end to the Iraq War!

um... very GOOD news for everyone that there isn't a recession...
however, this is all just idiotic partisan ranting.

i just have a question... wasn't the "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED" a while back?

and we won't have a "VI" day, because this isn't a conventional war, it's an invasion of a country for one or more reasons that weren't the original stated reasons.

I'm under the impression that the 'mission accomplished' banner was for that particular aircraft and THEIR mission.

The good news - the economy is just fine - for now.

The bad news - the oil folks want to trade oil in Euros, not dollars. The mortgage lenders have screwed up and a major part of that market is about to collapse. Even Merril Lynch is rumored to be failing and is about to be bought out by Syria (yes - Axis of Evil Syria).

The economy will all depend on how smart the next POTUS is. McCain (and his VP Lieberman or Tom Ridge) understand economics. Obama is just another soak-the-rich and penalize-the productive heavy taxer to support social giveaways. Hillary would hit the defense industry hard and cause massive layoffs of blue collar and white collar workers in that area.

November will seriously determine the course of America's economics.

You cannot honestly believe the economy is fine. Look around you man...just an example, half the houses in my neighborhood are up for sale or the previous owners have already been evicted. The average person is riddled with debts on account of the fact that cost of living is skyrocketing due to the dwindling buying power of the dollar and their wages are either not going up, or are going down. The only people that are truly fine are those that are filthy rich and that isn't going to last much longer except for a select few who have invested properly. The economy is in critical condition, wake up.

Well all the personal horror stories aside... Economically I am doing wonderful and so is everyone that I know..

BUT

Why use all the conjecture and postulation? Let's look at the most recent FACTS and FIGURES.

The expansion of the U.S economy continued for the fifth consecutive
year in 2006. Economic growth was strong, with real gross domestic
product (GDP) growing at 3.4 percent during the four quarters of 2006. This
strong economic growth comes in the face of numerous headwinds and
resulted from the inherent strengths of the U.S. economy and pro-growth
policies such as tax relief, regulatory restraint, and opening foreign markets to
U.S. goods and services.

Real GDP posted strong 3.4 percent growth in 2006, up from the
3.1 percent 2005 pace.

Labor markets continued to strengthen, with the unemployment rate
descending to 41⁄2 percent in the fourth quarter , and payroll job growth
averaging 187,000 per month.

Real average hourly earnings accelerated to a 1.7 percent increase during
the 12 months of 2006, reflecting solid labor markets combined with
tamer energy prices.

The Administration’s forecast calls for the economic expansion to
continue in 2007 and beyond, although the pace of expansion is
projected to slow somewhat from the stronger growth of recent years.
The unemployment rate is projected to edge up slightly in 2007, while
remaining below 5 percent. Real GDP growth is projected to continue
at around 3 percent in 2008 and thereafter, while the unemployment
rate is projected to remain stable and below 5 percent.

Economic Report

Now I am sure all of you "Doom Predicting Placard Wearers" will refute this because it is 2006, but it is the most recent and WOW actually contains FACTS and FIGURES. You will also I am sure, post your personal horror stories, all of which I am sorry you have experienced, but for me, this was a banner year. I have more money, my investments went perfectly, I am WAY better off economically and just built a new house.

So, continue to wear your "Doom Placards" you have been on street corners for centuries now and LOOK! No doom yet.... HUH? Wonder why that is?

You didn't read my entire post, did ya??

The economy is fine for now. There are things on the horizen that could spell trouble, depending on what happens. Your little corner of the world may not look good, but when taken as a whole, the economy is doing just fine.

I'm with ya friend, and I don't need no moustache boy to replay a SPEECH I done mesmorized as is my Gawd given duty as a Christian, Billionaire Defense Contractor and Fox News Analyst.

Pres-e-dent Bush said, and I quote:

"Dumbasses. I 'preciate ya'll spending an extra day in the middle of nowhere so I had an excuse to put on this faggoty jumpsuit and pretend to fly an a-ro-plane just like I did the whole time I defended Alabama from the Vietcong by snorting coke off a hooker's belly. Insert irrititating giggle here. Oh, I wasn't sposed to read that. But anyhoo, I'm here in front of this big old MISSION ACCOMPLISHED banner to tell ya, we're #ed. This mess aint never gonna be over. There were no weapons of mass destruction, Saddam wasn't the point and neither are elections. Now I'm gonna toss around some vaugue ambiguity about winning something a thousand years from now, even though every single gawd damn mission I gave ya on the Tee Vee was accomplished in 42 days. Suck it up. I hate you all." -President George W. Bush

EXACTLY !!!!

Thank you

My point exactly.... If one is going to post erroneous drivel instead of the truth, why not make it fanciful and completely unbelievable?

Perfect... Thank you

Yeah.....

Good luck with that....

See the truth is often only what the listener believes it to be anyway...

We still have people believing President Bush actually said "Mission Accomplished" so what is the "Truth" to them?

We have people that actually believe the war was illegal....

No matter how many times you post the truth, there are those that will not believe it, choosing instead to believe in their own little version and not the actual facts.

I know. Beyond Bush, (shudder) I really do just want to get along. I was serious when I said if Bush was just honest. Evil I respect. Just say it. Hillary does, and I hate, hate, hate her. Why has it come to this?

The economy is not fine, despite what you are being told. The dollar is almost equal value to the Canadian dollar www.xe.com... just a few years ago, the Canadian dollar was worth about 60 cents here in the states. Cost of living increases at a greater rate than wages, and at a time when the dollar has decreased buying power.

As for being in my little corner of the world...www.venturacountystar.com... This show quite clearly that this is not a unique phenomenon. This is reality all around this country. www.spotlightonfinance.org...

The only folks in this country that are fine are the few who are well off financially...The other 95% of the people are being crushed by this economy.
