Judging a group of people by one person or even a small handful of people is ridiculous. Of course all british people aren't stupid.

Stephen Hawking is a brit! Many other important intellectuals are or have been as well. I'm not sure where you picked up the anti-british sentiment from, but it is absolutely unfounded.

Generalizations are a major problem in the world today and they are a real obstacle for communication.
Whether it's the British, the Americans, the Arabs or the Jews... the entire idea of a collective identity is ridiculous and should be erased from people's thinking completely.

I think it's generational these days as I believe people who come from the 40s to the 60s age are better than those born in the late 70s and 80s what ever the race. Maybe we are too spoilt and dummed down in thought in terms of ratio of people in certain generations. The spectrum effects all countries and peoples in this because the world has probably missed out on a few fundimental things that youngsters these days do not have a clue about living.

I was responding to the "American people are sdiputs" thread There is an anti American sentiment amongst some ATS members and some happen to be British.

No offence but I do believe that the British people think the Americans are below certain IQs but Americans them selves have tryed to portray this anyway.

Think of how many George W Bush videos of him being a dumb American leader has been made on you tube and how Farinheight 9/11 portrayed him.
What about those video's where Americans do not know where America is on the map. This is Americans showing Americans they are dumb so don't expect the British to say otherwise and Borat is another example.

I just think it's a cultural stereotype once again.

Too true, stereotyping of anykind is easy when cherry picking facts and editing information to "prove" a belief whilst disregarding conflicting facts.

Before making videos like this, these people really ought to go back to school and learn to spell. They have only succeded in making fools of themselves.

Obviously not all British people are stupid, but their are alot of British people who are unaware of alot of things going on around the world that our government is involved in. That's not stupid, that is disinterested and uninformed. But hey not everyone is bothered.

On topic - I have never heard a stereotype that 'British people are stupid'. I have heard the stereotypes that they all have bad teeth and that the men are major wimps (I have no idea if any of that is true) .. but never that they are stupid.

Indeed. I've heard the one about bad teeth, but never that we where cowards.

I would have thought after all the Wars and running the worlds largest ever Empire would have proved that one wrong.

Town centres on a weekend evening would also not be a good place to call the British wimps...

(As for the bad teeth one. It is a myth. The only people I know who have teeth trouble are people who go to the dentist. I haven't been in 15 years and my teeth are perfect )

My initial reaction upon reading your post was to reply in a very aggressive manner.
Fortunately, I am beginning to control my natural instincts and will politely point out that we Brits have a very long and proud history which is strewn with countless tales of bravery and derring-do.

Unlike some of our European cousins we have never backed down from a fight or flown the White Flag at the first sign of things getting difficult.

We are indeed an island race and are a race of fighters and warriors, unfortunately this is a natural trait that the PC brigade are trying to deny and knock out of us.
As stated in previous posts, it would be a courageous act indeed to call us Brits wimps.

Getting back on thread, we Brits are neither stupid.
How could any nation that spawned the Industrial Revolution and has contributed so much to human development, especially when considering the relatively small population be considered so?

Unfortunately, it seems that there is a concerted effort to dumb down the majority population and people seem to accept mediocrity at every level.

Something has to be done to stop the steady decline into this unhealthy malaise before it is too late.
