What if any information was known, published about that case pre-1978?

Anything anyone can point out? (I mean after the initial buzz ended, prior to Marcel telling his story to Friedman and Stringfield)

Was checking if there was any activity on this thread, saw none so I jumped over to Rosell on wikipedia; alot of good data there, one notable snippet concerning this subject:

A subsequent press conference was called, featuring debris said to be from the crashed object that seemed to confirm the weather balloon description. The case was quickly forgotten and almost completely ignored, even by UFO researchers, for more than 30 years

If anyone knows this to be untrue we'd like to hear from you.

I wouldnt be surprised about this quote if it was true. I mean, it WAS 1947, what was happening then? Oh yeah, we had a Cold War going. I think the fervor of ICBMs/WW3, Korea, Vietnam, economy, etc. had the country forget about Roswell.

In those times, i dont think there were that many people who questioned the Gov. due to trusting them so much after being essentially being viewed as "saviors" in WW2. The US Gov. was not so intrusive as they are back then , igniting anit-american sentiment as they are now.

So what i am saying is, the US Gov. had tread carefully around this subject by disclousing it was merely a weather ballon, walked away briskly , and pointed at other things to be worried about, namely Russia. Thus, Roswell was completly forgotten. I guess it seemed that the UFO craze starting from Kenneth Arnolds UFO and Roswell was temporary for the US.
