I wouldnt be surprised about this quote if it was true. I mean, it WAS 1947, what was happening then? Oh yeah, we had a Cold War going. I think the
fervor of ICBMs/WW3, Korea, Vietnam, economy, etc. had the country forget about Roswell.
In those times, i dont think there were that many people who questioned the Gov. due to trusting them so much after being essentially being viewed as
"saviors" in WW2. The US Gov. was not so intrusive as they are back then , igniting anit-american sentiment as they are now.
So what i am saying is, the US Gov. had tread carefully around this subject by disclousing it was merely a weather ballon, walked away briskly , and
pointed at other things to be worried about, namely Russia. Thus, Roswell was completly forgotten. I guess it seemed that the UFO craze starting from
Kenneth Arnolds UFO and Roswell was temporary for the US.
