damn..the pain has been crazy.
i pop my knees a lot and my wife thinks this is how i hurt it.
i will try to explain how i pop my knees...my wife is a PT and she likened it to a football player pivoting.

so say i am standing there still. my feet are planted solid and i kind of twist my body but the rotation comes from the knee.
she said i could have hurt my acl(i think that is what she said)...

we are talking some serious pain here man.

anyone know anything about ligaments and such?

I tore my ACL my senior year playing college football.

It could just be a sprain, but you need to get an MRI to make sure. There really isn't any test that you can do to determine if it's a spain or a tear.

I sprained my knee twice before I had an ACL tear, but it felt very similar to a sprain.

What did you do to injure your knee?

Sorry to hear that Boondock. Advil, ice packs, and see doc about some vicadin. In the meantime, stay off it. Have any crutches around? Keep elevated.
After healing think about some light rehabilitative work outs. I slightly tore my acl catching a falling patient at work two years back and it hitched when I walked, felt like my leg was going to just buckle. Was in a leg brace for 3 wks. Popping your knees like that is not advisable. Have had jaw problems since having wisdom teeth out under GAnesthesia and I think they dislocated it. You can hear me pop my jaw across the room sometimes. If I do it too much leads to inflammation and ear aches, infections.

My boss just recently tore cartilage in her knee and it was VERY painful - even thought it was just a tiny tear. You need to see an orthopedic doctor and have an MRI and see what's wrong. I feel for you though, I have "popping, grinding" knees myself. Not fun.

my wife is a PT and she palpated it a few times yesterday. yesterday was the first time she noticed a little swelling. it is not warm and not swollen very bad so she seems to think it is minor.....

i'm gonna hold off a week or so and see what happens. if it is still jacked, then i will go but i want to avoid the BS. i would have to go to the family doc to get a referal to the ortho. then x-rays and mri's and before you know it, i am out of my pocket for some long money and they will tell me to put ice on it.

i have plenty of vicodin laying around...

Boondock, I didn't recognize your avatar. Very different from your normal avatars.
Kinda scary.

You have made a wise decision IMO. Give it some time to heal. Once you get on the doctor merry go round it can get quite involved with several specialist before you realize. I'm still getting bills from my last ER visit 6 months ago.

Use cold packs while it's swollen then switch to a heating pad in a few days. Or maybe it's the other way around. Take pain meds tonight and report to us in the morning. lol

Hope you have a quick recovery.
