To a Christian these symbols are evil...and would be very offensive if displayed near a celebration of Christ...period...

[edit on 12/19/2007 by kinglizard]

KL, I am curious as to how Pagan symbols such as the pentacle became "evil" in the minds of some Christians. Can you show me something that states that these things are "evil" from a Christian standpoint? Like a bible passage or something... IMO I think the belief of Pagan symbology as evil from most aspects of modern Christianity is born from ignorance.

Should Christians take up the practice of burning witches again? Was this not a practice born from ignorance?

I just cant for the life of me find anything amongst Christian doctrine that states this as being evil.

That's what I thought. You take a lot of stuff for granted. It is your duty as a citizen to see that the Consitution is followed.

You forget: it is also YOUR duty to see that the Constitution is followed and that there is no religious discrimination. What are you doing to uphold religious freedom?

And...who the hell are you to judge how deep my beliefs are? Jesus said, don't judge, remember?

I welcomed you at least 5 times to wear/display symbols of your fath in a way that does not intrude on other faiths. If I was in the neighborhood, I would gladly lend you a ladder and/or tools to help hang a Yula on your house. I know some caprentry. Don't you think this would be a friendly gesture and in the spirit of Constitution? I am positive you would help me hang palm branches around my house at appropriate times during the Christian year, won't you?

And...who the hell are you to judge how deep my beliefs are?

Well, you know a person by their action, this is the litmus I have.

This is pure libel. You want to denigrate Christianity on any occasion that presents itself.

Why not? Christians and Muslims do it every chance they get to other belief systems as well. What goes around comes around, so saith karma.

So, Buddha, you're denying the hatred that Muslims and Christians have in their hearts for other beliefs systems? Remember, according to Muslims and Christians, those who don't believe as they do are going to "burn" in the mythical "hell..."

Your are turning the thread into a personal issue and your personal campaign against Forestlady personal choice of religious worship.

And that is not what the OP is all about.

Another thing,Buddha, you say I am constantly indignant against Islam and Christianity... The explanation for that is simple, take a good look at the world around you..

Karma said that? I would like a quote.

Just about any belief system can be distorted by a fraction of followers and taken to justify all sorts of horrendous acts.

Your generalizing (which even as such is rather silly) that modern day christians want the inquisition back (with requisite burning at a stake etc) is just that, a libel.

I spoke with many Muslims when I visited Northern Africa and haven't met a single unreasonable person, much less a bloodthirsty maniac. You should get out more.

Marg, please don's simplify to the extent that you distort the meaning of my post. I never told anyone that ForestLady has made a wrong choice with her paganism. Or that she should remove witchery paraphernalia from her front lawn. I said just the opposite.

Buddha, you're trying to bait me. You know how I feel and you're just trying to get me to say something I'll regret later... It's not going to work, "friend."

Sheesh. If you resign from a discussion, that's your right. If you can't control yourself in speech, and afraid to spew out something stupid, I can't help you.

Buddhasytem, please don't derail the thread. And please quit baiting members with your provocative statements.

Can we get back on topic now? Thank you.

In all this pages you have becoming littler by littler increasingly hostile to the OP, and the thread started.

Even here you are using language to offend her religious believes.

Now this is becoming personal.

At least she is grateful enough no to fall for it.

In our nation our constitution protects everybody religious freedom.

Dear FL, I respectfully decline that I am trying to "bait" anybody. This is of no interest to me. If I manage to create a statement that is challenging your logic and sheds light on the subject from an angle you never considered, that's hardly a bait and on the contrary, a worthy post.

Going back to the original OP, ignoring the trolling, I was going to ask you it is possible to have an update on the OP, I will love to know if the City council decided to take the nativity or if the problem with the Vandals and the Yule wreath was resolved.

keep us update if can.

fall for what exactly? Please enlighten me.

Constitution in itself does not protect you from anything. It only works if it's in your actions. I said I would offer help (if I was in the neighborhood) FL in decorating her house for the holidays in a most pagan manner. What else do you want? I don't insist on installing a crucifix in the center of every (or any) pagan's Yula. And I'm tired of your vitriol, frankly. I thought pagans were paragons of open-mindedness and tolerance and boy was I wrong!

Here is a link for a little education for those who may be confused as to what a Pagan is and is not.

en.wikipedia.org...

Personally I see it as the foundation to many of the modern edited, customized and reinvented Western religions based on the Bible. Sort of the "Great Grandfather" of many modern religions.

While I dont concider myself as a true Pagan, many of my beliefs are VERY much instep with Pagan beliefs. Heck I guess I am a Creedoist... *shrug* At least I dont have to pretend there is a God. Because honestly... no one knows... that is why there is "faith".

My "God", if you will, rests firmly at my feet whenever I stand. Is always there to cradle me as I lay my head at night. She is Earth... My true mother. And she always has my complete respect. She never requires others to speak to me for her, worship her or kill for her. She dosnt require unnatural and unrealistic belief in her while remaining "invisible".... she is right here below me.. I can touch her... smell her. No games... no mysteries... and no one is in charge of conveying her "message" to me FOR her. She speaks directly to me.... no fee required. No guilt... no shame... no riddles in a 2000 year old human made book. Mother Earth is not in the business of keeping me confused.

I KNOW my place in this symbiosis. She speaks it to me... you.. all of us constantly. All you need to do is listen.
