You know what's really freaky about thinking you've uncover a true conspiracy?

It's when you think to yourself: Wow, how come no one thought about this before me? -Well that's because they all died telling it!

You'd figure the conspiracy would leak to the public eye before the host died.

Then, it wouldn't be a real conspiracy.

Not all those involved in conspiracies have perfect minds at their disposals, to ensure no leaking. I am sure that a lot of screwups have been made, or even people having second thoughts, high ranked ones involved, wanting to get out of the evil, and tell all to put a stop to it.

I think you may have a point there. Dr david kelly was murdered for telling the truth about wmd. We were told it was suicide by the media, but evidence is suspect.

Remember what a conspiracy is really: a group of people making a deal to misdirect or defraud society at large. They happen all the time, and most are rather routine.

In the news media we make a point of busting conspiracies, the vast majority of them are nowhere near the size and scope of say Watergate. Usually it's more like a few crooked cops skimming off the top in drug busts or some crooks setting up a fake charity and keeping the money themselves. These are the kind of conspiracies that happen every day in the modern world.

The ones where everyone who knows the truth ends up dead are exceptionally rare, and usually more a product of the imaginations and paranoia of people wanting them to be true than anything else. Aside from perhaps the crimes of the Mafia, I cannot think of one off the top of my head where the conspirators were so through and competent as to eliminate every single person who knew the "truth". It's more the realm of dramatic fiction than the real world.

Remember too, the bigger a conspiracy (the more people in on it and working for it) the harder it is to keep quiet. The best kept conspiracies I have ever seen in my time as a journalist were contained within 4 or less individual conspirators.

It seems reasonable to assume you wouldn't know about such a conspiracy if it were thorough, competent, and every single person who knew the truth were eliminated.
