Musician Ike Turner dies at 76

news.yahoo.com

SAN DIEGO - Ike Turner, whose role as one of rock's critical architects was overshadowed by his ogrelike image as the man who brutally abused former wife and icon Tina Turner, died Wednesday at his home in suburban San Diego. He was 76.

Well the former wife beater finally kicked the bucket. The article notes that he denied Tina's claims of abuse in a 2001 interview. He was frustrated by the demonization of his image and feels his contributions to Rock and Roll culture have been ignored.

What do you think? Should Ike be remembered as a great musician or a wife beating drug addict?

Well, they aren't mutually exclusive.

Ike had some serious R&B chops and it is to bad that he couldn't channel his bad energy into his music but the music business .....

The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side.

Ike was a ground breaking and revolutionary musician.

However that is no excuse to become a druggie wife-beater. It never made sense either, he did all this out of jealousy, because she was the one who got all the attention. But he was the one that made her!

Awww well, hopefully peace will come from the other side.

This has to be the best headline on Ike Turner's passing:

IKE 'BEATS' TINA TO DEATH

December 13, 2007 -- LOS ANGELES - Rock 'n' roll pioneer Ike Turner, who rose to fame in the 1950s and became a star performing with his ex-wife, Tina Turner, has died at age 76, said an official with the performer's management company

Ike and Tina together were tremendous artists!

Yes, he beat her and i had no respect for him, but as far as an artist/singer, he was good.

Yeah I think you're probably right.

As much as everyone hates wifebeaters who here gives Ike some leaniance because of his rough childhood?

I had a rough childhood too. We were dirt poor, my mom was an abusive alcoholic and we were even homeless for a period.

Still, I don't do drugs, I only drink a couple times a year and I don't abuse anyone. I know many other people who are the same.

I understand that there are a lot of kids that had a rough childhood that do act out like that, but there is a lot of help out there. If you are so far gone to continuously deny the fact that you need help over and over again the way Ike did, then I'm sorry I can't continue to feel sorry for that person.
