Good Thread

I don't know if anybody mention this but....

Person A: 6'0 at 185 pounds buys a plane ticket to go to new york for $450.00
Person B: 6'0 at 425 pounds buys a plane ticket to go to new york for $450.00

Person A arrives at the airport and their baggage is 15 pounds overweight. They tell person A that they have to pay an extra $65.00 because its overweight.

Now if Person A is only 185 pounds and has a extra 15 pounds to carry, why should he pay extra if he's smaller than person B. With the extra 15 pounds his complete weight is still smaller...Should person A be charged for the extra weight when person B is getting away with it.

My Apologies if this is off topic...

I completely agree with you.

PERSON A is deffinately a normal person he made a mistake and over packed.

PERSON B is deffinately a normal person who made a mistake and over ate.

200 LBs VS 15 LBs

I would like to see what they have to say about being politically corrupt.. I mean correct.

EDIT to add:

Yes I know it is very hypothetical. But this has actually happened and it is completely rediculous.

Are you saying that eating more calories than you are expending is not the cause of obesity?

Contrary to your beleif... Obese People do weigh more then normal people... twice the amount typically. A normal woman should weigh between 100-140. A man... 120-180. Im a personal trainer im pulling these number out of my Gluteus Maximus... just for the record they are ... pretty close to being accurate tho. So you have 2 overweight people by 150 lbs... which is very typical. and you have added 2.5 People to the plane that did not pay. So the skinny people who eat conservatively are paying for your habits..

Why i think they are doing this in all honesty... probably because the rising population cant create enough food for the entire population so they are picking on obese people... because obese people tend to eat 3 times more then needed... so not only do they weigh the amount of 2 or 3 people they eat that much. Its a rediculous situation. Keep in mind the percentage of Obese Americans Eating Excess food. Thats a couple million mouths that could be fed a day if they werent so..."hungry"

No I'm saying (yet again) there are numerous causes of obesity and it is ignorant to presume it must be from eating to much... google "causes of obesity" and educate yourself.

wow im sorry i do cope with the stressed of being overweight... Im not nor am I assuming you are but WOW!.

WOW

WOW!

ARE YOU SERIOUS?

Personal trainer trying to bring insight here... Obesity is caused by overeating... and also Undereating. First Over eating... of course... is obvious. Undereating what happens is you undereat and your body goes into survivial mode... knowing that your not getting enough so it will hord all future energy as fat and will continue to do so for DAYS! But then most people mess up again and it contiunes on and on and on... Thus in survivial mode people pack on a lot of excess weight. OTHER causes are that of stress, the way you perceive reality is the way your body responsds to it. Stress is harder to explain so I wont go there. There are a few medical conditions but they exist in a very small fraction of the population. Now it will in the future become a problem because DIABETES is a problem. Diabetes is when the kidneys have "issues" with insulin. Thus causing irregularities in use of sugars and how it stores it... thus creating some problems. I say diabetes is becoming a problem because of the Cereal industry. Sugar is not supposed to be had within the first 3 hours of waking up. You can eat some but not much. It will result in long term effects... like diabetes because it destroys the kidneys.

ANYWAYS enough ranting. Overeating is the primary reason of obesity, then under eating, then stress and diabetes and then at the very bottom is actual diseases... seriously... its a very small number of people that actually have the disease. You dont tell OBESE people when your presribing them help that you eat too much... they get mad and sue you... you just tell them they have a medical condition.

huh?

What?

DOES USING ALLCAPS MUST MEAN YOU'RE RIGHT AND I'M WRONG?

I was actually addressing someone else but okay..

I know two people with hypothyroidism, another had put on weight with cancer.. and I have known other people who have had eating disorders caused by mental illness. I never said eating too much does not cause obesity.. my point was people with legit medical problems should not be punnished because some ignorant person thinks they ate too many twinkies.

Is it fair that a fat person, before travelling should have to undergo the humiliation of some sort medical background check just to make sure their fat was not self inflicted? Fat people aren't entitled to privacy now? Thats basically what would have to happen which would mean discriminating.. which is why it didn't.

btw. You have already pointed out you're a personal trainer. kudos to you.

The Star you received actually came from me. I am very glad you figured out I am a personal trainer. Another star if you impress me
You know thats a lie cause i can o nly give you one.

ANYWAYS. The caps reflect important words to me. They dont make them SPECIAL. See?

There are conditions like cancer and hypo...hyper thyroidism that cause problems. Those are normally affected by eating too much and too little, eating things that poison the body and stuff like that. IF YOU ARE BORN with problems like that is because your momma ate crap that was bad for you. All of it is related to humanitys downfall. We dont care ab out each other, we dont care about the product we give each other. Those problems are inflicted by humans. Is it really a surprise that big industry wants to do this to obese people? COME ON MAN! Punishing Innocent people with political hogwash is in the NOW MAN. Narly! But seriously, what do you exspect. You cant change anything. The only thing you can do is be more conscious of the choices you make.

and btw. Cancer is cureable. Dont let medical people fool you. If you Only drink pure liquids eat plenty of fruits and vegetables... detox your body etc. Cancer will go away. Its just part of the system. Doctors have to stay in business so they leave out information that is easy. Your body was designed by the creator to heal itself. AND IT DOES. You just have to stop buying filth out of the store... grow it yourself without fertilizer... if your soil cant grow it without fertilizer i hope you dont have a well because chances are your water is polluted also which will help contribute to cancer. Im sorry I offended you. But... Its not Fair a 160 LB man pays for a 340 Lb man with all the rising fuel costs... its not fair but its life.

Tall people don't make take up my space on a plane, it's the slugs whose fat rolls ooze over the hand-rests that jerk me off. I shouldn't have to subsidize them by paying more for my ticket and sacrificing my personal space.
The onus is on fat people to do something about their weight.

smaller people should get a discount ..taller people should be charged more for legs room... crying children should be gagged... i could go on and on.. frankly its the noise of crying children and people talking to loud annoys me the most.....

I think it's unfair. Maybe the best option should be the Air plane companies start to make a few "especial" sits for obese people. But at a normal price, because to be a obese is very similar to be sic with a ilness.
Ill people should´nt must pay more then others.

I think your heart is in the right place, but if they make special larger seats it would probably mean the airline loses money because they are basically removing seats available to "average size" travelers. They don't lose money by making the person buy two seats and all passengers are as comfortable as they can be in a coach seat. I had to fly when I was in advanced stage of pregnancy, and I was HUGE. I weighed probably about 180 lbs at that point, and I still fit in my seat and could buckle in. I imagine the folks who need to buy two seats are very, very big, not just a bit overweight. Most people would not be affected. It may be safer for them to have two seats, too. Now I am assuming Aussie obesity rates are not worse than US.

edit to add- just noticed this is an old thread- at least a year old, and the person I am replying to gave their opinion back when this was a new thread- duh me. sorry!

Lol crying kids stop crying, fat people don't stop being fat. Nothing worse than being stuck next some incredibly obese person for 15 hours. Tall people could be charged for more leg room if they wanted, but they don't encroach on other peoples seats like lard asses. Fat people should be charged for 2 seats, or quite simply don't fly. Also they tend to have more BO than the average person, probably because they sweat more because they are fat.

I'm just gonna say in advance that this is going to come off sounding completely jerkish and over the top insensitive. Now, on to it.

Has anyone actually had to fly next to a person who was so large they could not put down the arm rest?

Last year I had the incredible fortune of traveling overseas for work a couple times. The flight was about 13 hours long and TWICE (out of 4 times) I was stuck next to large people on REALLY full flights.

The first time was the person who was large enough to not be able to pull down the arm rest. I spent 13 hours facing sideways because there literally was 8 inches of space on my seat (I measured while they were asleep). When the drink cart came by, I had to stand up - again because there just wasn't enough space to turn.

The second time, I was in the middle seat between 2 people so large that there was literally no room for me to sit down. swapping for an end seat left me a couple inches (similar to the above). Mercifully, there were a couple flight attendants who let me sit in an extra jump seat (despite regulations, I know).

I understand health reasons for obesity, I understand mental issues for causing overeating, but if you're gonna tell me I have to go through that again cause someone won't admit they're too large for just one seat alone? NO THANKS.

With all that's being said about fat people encroaching on other people's space and needing to pay more for an extra seat, how about people with a contagious illness pay for an extra seat as well. I'm so over always having the bad fortune of sitting next to someone who is obviously ill. Sneezing, hacking, coughing. And sure enough a few days later I'll be down with the same thing because of it.

I'm venting now. I'm sick as a dog from a flight I took a few days ago and AGAIN had to sit next to a person who was ill. I don't care about overweight people taking up too much seating space. To be honest, once I'm off the flight I can get over it. But seriously... if you're ill postpone your flight if at all possible!! Ugh!!!

Venting can be fun AND therapeutic!

With the recirculating air, even being on the same plane as sick people is a risk. I get that sometimes you just HAVE to fly, but why not wear a face mask? Or at least just take drugs so your symptoms aren't apparent. It's not honest, but the psychological effect of sitting to someone snorting, hacking, sneezing incessantly for hours on end is terrible!
