It’s been public knowledge since it first flew in, I think, the late 90s (98, 99?); then was put on the market, failed to gain interest and put in
storage, now it’s back in service flying new payloads around and taking part in RAF tests and exercises. The X-RAEs are also back flying I think as
well; I’d like to know a bit more about them if you have any info. The information I can find is sketchy and contradictory at best.
With regards to Taranis, I’m 100% sure that won’t be flown in the UK. With the first flight being just two years away(ish) there’s no way the
CAA would let an aircraft of that type fly in UK airspace by then. Everything I’ve been told and seen of Raven has said that it was flown at
Woomera. Soarer and Kestrel however flew in the UK and both look a bit like Raven, I could see how someone could muddle them up.
Shame about Pegasus, a very interesting programme and a big boon for Qinetiq, hope it’s still on track.
As for me, I’m not in the industry; I’m sort of trying to get into writing about it though. Nothing too technical, just jotting down facts and
figures and hoping to flog them to someone lol.
