That's were the phrase 'a brush with death' comes from.

Guess it boils down to the police or the witnesses story as to how it actually unfolded.

you know, i cant really tell if your joking,

cos it wouldnt surprise me if america has had a long history of hairbrush-death incidents...

,,,,man you guys are crazy!,keep it up it makes me laugh!

Is a lobotomy part of the training to be in the US police force?

One shot to the leg would have stopped him coming at them.

Why do they always have a shoot 1st, think later policy?

I think they should have shot him long time ago instead of telling him to drop the 'weapon'.

Coppin ignored repeated commands to stop and get on the ground. Witnesses said the teen appeared to be holding an object underneath his shirt and pointed it at the officers. Coppin continued to approach officers, as they ordered him to stop, said Kelly.

childish?,no i am just secure enough in my personality to not have to present myself in self conscious, praise seeking manner.

do you know of the word media spin?.

do you know how institutions use media spin to manage events such as this?.

Actually if you listen to the witness's they have stated that the kid dropped the brush and put his hands in the air, then the police fired. At least that was the interview I saw on CNN this morning. The police tell a different story. In the end I am afraid it will come down to who are you going to believe? And if this thing goes to court, the cops will win.

thank you.

"it boils down to who you believe", seems to be a phrase im hearing all the time nowadays.

one things for sure, its usually in the context of the people vs a higher authority.

i know who i dont believe.

You dont know who to believe?

What do witlessness have to gain by lying?
Nothing
What do the police have to gain by lying?
Keeping their jobs and not going to prison.

It should be pretty clear to you whos telling the truth. Id believe a random member of the public ahead of the police any day, they arent interested in justice or the truth, just covering their own arses.

unless you are involved in law enforcement most people dont realize all the stuff that goes on in a cops mind or what they have been trained to do. I am currently in training for the academy of corrections. from what i have been taught if the cop truly feels he and the life of others are in danger and verbal commands DO NOT work then it IS time to shoot. crazy i know but these cops have to be cautious u NEVER EVER know what is going to happen and NOTHING IS EVER AS IT SEEMS ..especially in law enforcement. although 20 rounds is quite ridiculous.

damn i wish i had the video they showed me in the academy..it was of a cop involved shooting. two different cam angles. anyway one angle looks like the cops just did it for the heck of it but then the other angle u see the guy with the gun just walking toward them..

i wasn't at this incident so i don't know what happend..just saying not ALL cops are bad.but of course there are knuckleheads in any line of work.
sucks that only these type of cop incidents appear on the news.

i have just one thing to say,

one cant be "armed" with a hairbrush, unless ive been somewhere different for a long time.

i'm certain you would have been calm cool and collected, and risked your life to make absolutely sure that what he was hiding, pulled out and pointed at you wasnt a gun, after making it clear that he is unstable and claiming to have a gun, and is looking for a confrontation with police.

you'll make quite a cop, so, when can we expect to see you at the police academy?

dont tell me you're going to keep your super skills from the service of protecting the people, are you?

if so, then you have no room to criticize these policemen, put up or shut up is an old expression that seems appropriate here.

So when an officer states to raise one's hands above your head in the air and you do, you are still going to be shot?

What ever happened to backing up a bit or using cover to verify the situation?

Next we'll hear that a deaf person signing to a cop was shot to death because he didn't stop moving his hands. We've already seen a woman in a wheelchair tasered to death.

I'm not defending the bad guys, and I know the police have a difficult job, but some of these shootings just seem over the edge.

he made it clear he had a gun, and was behaving very violently, and he reached into his clothes rapidly and threateningly and had a small dark object in his hands

how many of your colleagues need to get shot before you're convinced he really has a gun before you shoot?

act like a dangerous killer, expect to be treated like one, there were innocent bystanders all over the place

to serve and protect who? the killer or innocents?

this has suicide by cop written all over it

in um, certain neighborhoods, there is a markedly overt anti-authority culture it may surprise you to know...

if you're very politically correct then thats understandable, you know, with your head in the sand and all.

how ever did this poor fellow find himself in such a pickle?

i'm sure he didnt, by his own actions, place himself and others in this very risky and dangerous situation where a number of unfortunate things are more likely to occur, right?

how come i never seem to find myself in sitch's like that? oh, thats right, because i dont behave like an unstable, violent thug. hmmm.
