Sunni Tribal Leaders of Diyala Salvation Council Killed in Suicide Bombing

Well, Al-Qaeda strikes the brave Sunni's who are rising up to grasp their nation from treachery yet again. Not even two weeks ago, Sunni Sheiks from the Salvation Council were abducted after a meeting and slain by Al-Qaeda and/or renegade, Iranian backed, Shiite militias.

The Salvation Council is the spearhead, the operational portion, of the alliance of Sunni tribes throughout Iraq which have made deals with the Government and the United States, in return for assistance and cooperation in riding their lands of Al-Qaeda and Foreign Terrorists. This has been a hugely successful endeavor thus far, cleaning up Anbar province, Iraq, a former center for the insurgency, of Al-Qaeda militants and insurgents. Because of the Council, Sunni's wear police uniforms and military uniforms and protect the cities of Fallujah and Ramadi. No longer is U.S. intervention even directly needed, only occasional assistance in logistics and aerial support.

What an accomplishment this is. What was once the thorn which made us all convinced Iraq was totally doomed, is now a blossoming flower who's pollen kills the bugs which try to use it for protection. So it is no wonder that Al-Qaeda is going all out trying to kill these guys. This bombing happened during a meeting of the Council, an Al-Qaeda bomber infiltrated the meeting and exploded his belt. The number of dead is still varying with reports. Al-Qaeda has been cornered into Nineveh and Diyala provinces, with a smaller presence in the areas immediately north of Baghdad such as Tikrit and Baquba.

With the Turkish military amassed at the Northern Border, things aren't looking too great for Al-Qaeda in Iraq. Sure, they'll always be a small organization, causing small time trouble, but they will never be what they once were, and they will not be able to stop the central Iraqi Government from establishing relative peace throughout the countryside. Controlled is the word to describe this. While Syria looks attractive, it is really their only hope, the terrorists, because the Turks have 100,000 men on that very small border up there in Kurdistan. U.S. Special Forces and Veteran Marines are conducting the fight to Al-Qaeda in the Northern Provinces mentioned, making a northward push gradually, as they gain the trust of the population.

In contrast, Basra is becoming radicalized by Iranian agents and Shiite fervor, with the recent departure of the British Command to Basra Airport. Basra is descending into chaos according to some reports, with the port becoming unreliable for oil trading and shipping, with militias attempting to control the ports, eager to yank foreigners and profits.

What I See Happening in Iraq:

The Sunni population will eventually become America's real ally in Iraq. As gains are made to eradicate Al-Qaeda and the Sunni Insurgency, The South of Iraq will continue to go up in flames of Shiite radicalism and Iranian influence. Soon the fight will be with the Shiite Militias with Iranian infiltrators. This will culminate in a war with Iran, unfortunately. I do not forsee any large scale ground maneuvers however; it will be more of a Balkans style Campaign, run by a Democrat President, much like the Bosnia/Croatia deployment, mostly aerial. This will be U.N. sanctioned, and other nations may take part. Russia is growing increasingly unpredictable, though I do not see them joining a war against us, particularly if the U.N. and Europe were behind it and involved in it. They will however object vehemently, and our relations will literally become like they were in the Cold War days.

May God protect his flock.
