Here's something I tried and my kids loved it, wish I could say the same for the wife.

Prepare your mashed potatos the same as you do now and add a LITTLE cinnamon. It's a nice change.

That sounds pretty good! I never thought of that.

I use red potatoes, egg, sour cream, butter, garlic, milk, rosemary and parmesean cheese
Mashed potatoes are a favorite! My taters are always a hit when I make them for the holidays. I will have to post my recipe before the holidays

No one mentioned rosemary. It works well with meat (lamb, veal, beef and pork) as well as with veggies and starches. Plus if you chop it fine enough and mix with some garlic, thyme, oregano and oil it makes a good dipping sauce for bagna cauldo or as a spread for garlic bread.

Haha that is funny because I use rosemary in everything! I always have it fresh same with Italian parsley lol

I put them in my potatoes, eggs, soups, stews and sauces. I put rosemary in my pasta and bread too a long with dill.

Ohhh I love dipping sauces. They are so easy and fast to make. You can make individual ones for guests if you wanted lol.

Clove is my favorite spice..but not as versatile as others.

I like using it in coffee grinds with cinnamon.. in hot cereal ..with cinnamon. and it even tastes great in homemade dressings..such as raspberry vinaigrette , especially for a holiday salad.. I like it on spinach salads with strawberries, and nuts, and other good stuff..

I love playing with popcorn and kick it up a notch..stove top popcorn made with oil is my fav..

I don't use butter, but love dousing it with lemon pepper, garlic powder or garlic salt, and onion powder...also dill weed with lemon pepper is great.

Parmesian cheese on popcorn is great too..with combo's of other flavors.

Know these aren't herbs..but..

oops forgot to add something I love..but I don't think its considered an herb. Nasturtium leaves..(from the flowers) are edible..and have a great mild oniony flavor.. they are great tossed in a salad.. esp the spinach one I mentioned above.

Oh my god, CUMIN! I haven't tried using it until recently, but it tastes soooo good in just about everything. You can add it to vegetables, soup, pickles, curry, rice, chili. I'm pretty sure you can add it to anything savory and it would taste delicious

I agree. The best way to enjoy this is to toast your own cumin seeds and use a spice grinder.

How 'bout nutmeg? Heres what you do. Take your weight and ddivide by ten to find out how much you should use. Here's an example for me:

180lbs / 10 = 18 grams

Weigh it out and stir into a very tart citrus drink and gulp it down before you spew. The best part of this dish kicks in about an hour later and lasts up to 24 hours. enjoi!

Don't tell someone to do that!! Nutmeg is a dissociative hallucinogen when taken in large doses. This can make you sick or even send you to the hospital. Especially someone not realizing what you're talking about or inexperienced.

Not all of these are herbs...

Rosemary, garlic, marjoram, parsley, oregano, thyme, sage, paprika, bay leaves, chili, chives

Cardamom, asafoetida (can be found at Indian stores--this smells REALLY BAD but tastes amazing like onions and garlic), curry, coriander, ginger, cinnamon, 5 spice (star anise, clove, cinnamon, hot pepper, fennel seeds)

Sesame seeds (and oil), Shichimi Togarashi (Japanese 7 spice: orange peel, black, white and toasted sesame seeds, cayenne, ginger, Szechuan pepper and nori)

Spices make the world go round!!! There are all sorts of different salts and peppers too... ahhhh!

I honestly cannot believe no one mentioned bay leaves...

I mean if it's a red sauce and it's Italian bay leaves are the best. (although it doesn't take much..)

I like the smell of clove but I don't use it all that much. What meats would it go good with? Do you make any meals with chicken that has clove? I honestly always forget about clove cause I always associate it with Christmas for some reason lol.

Haha I'm glad someone else does this! I don't like butter on my pop corn, it always gives me a stomach ache afterwards. I started putting Mrs.Dash and Parmesean cheese on mine and my bf would just look at me. Then I started adding others like you have mentioned, ALL taste good and dill is a favorite! I prefer stove top popcorn too that way it has no butter vs microwave popcorn...The movie theater here has the flavored salts and powdered cheeses at the concession stand if you don't want butter. I like the garlic parm one they currently have!

I use whole cloves..in a ham ..coated with marmalade.

Also it is an ingredient in tourtiere (french meat pie), as well as jerk sauce.

It is a popular spice in middle eastern dishes.
