I live in Orkney, which is a group of islands of the northern coast of Scoland. Today whilst at college one of my tutors was telling us that one of our other tutors spotted a UFO. She was outside the college at about 6 am and looked north and saw a floating light in the distance.

It stayed still for a moment before darting around erratically and then coming back to its original position. It did this same thing 2 or 3 times before going up into the clouds.

Unluckily I don't think she took any pictures of this event. I thought I might just post this here as this is the first ever thing of this nature I have heard of happening in Orkney.

Very unusual for Orkney ... sounds intriguing, especially as the object seems to dart about then rise upwards into the clouds.

Maybe say to your tutor to contact Kirkwall Airport to see if there was any helicopter traffic in the area ? How low was the cloud cover today ?

I am not entirely sure about how low the cloud cover was this morning, but it was quite clear this morning just a few clouds. I don't think that they were very low.

I heard of a few sightings from Ornkey about ten years ago. There was also a story about a large number of seals found dead on the beach who all seemed to have died from the same injury. I can't remember if it was decapitation but the story went that, the cuts were at the neck and exactly between the same bone on each as if SURGICALLY done. Did you ever hear of this? I think it was reported in UK's UFO magazine and done by Tony Dodd.

I just found part of tha article online but there was no date. I'm sure I have the original magazine or newspaper report this came from. Think it was the mid nineties.Orkney Seal Mutilations
In Orkney, the bodies of over thirty seals were found on the beach. An R.S.P.C.A. spokesman said, “A post mortem of one of the seals revealed that the heads had been removed surgically. The wounds could not have been done by normal predators like sharks or killer whales.” The vet who carried out the autopsy said, “We cannot guess what killed these animals, but whatever it was had a knowledge of seal anatomy. The cuts were clean and precise and had gone between the bones of the vertebrae without actually damaging the bones. There was a total blood loss.”

There's a mythical race of seal people who live in Orcadian & Shetland waters, the Selkies. Human form but with seal skin, which they can shed when they walk on land. Perhaps the Selkies were the original greys ?

I thought a selkie was a horse spirit but just done a google and it's a kelpie. Found a site on Creatures of Scottish Folklore, I never realised there were so many. We're surrounded! Vampires too BTW. If you do a google search on Orkney seals there are hundreds of stories. Thousands killed by a virus, dozens shot. Hundreds missing. The list is endless, but I wonder what makes a vet say "they died with mysterious wounds". Makes you wonder?

It's more likely the seals were illegally shot, their heads removed and dumped at sea by local fisherman/fish farmers. Their numbers have bounced back since the virus which killed so many seals in Northern European waters at the end of the 1990's ... and the locals who rely on fishing seem to be getting a bit fed up with them.

I'm still curious about this mysterious light in the sky though. Haven't found any other similar reports online. Maybe we'll get an update tomorrow.
