anyone who has played metal gear solid (on ps1 or gamecube) know that it was a breathtaking experience espescially when your young and just getting into gaming. now sony is working on a live action motion picture adaptation of the game. most anyone who has played the game has been waiting for this but are propably also wary about sony ruining it. ive heard the guy who played aragorn might play snake but i honestly cant think of anyone who could make a convincing snake. honestly i could though i cant act and i look too young if i let my beard grow for a week and let my hair grow back to where it was last year then i can look exactly like that (planning on telling kojima that when they make a movie about MGS2 i could pull it off lol).

I think Kurt Russell doesn't have age on his side to play Snake in the movie ( there I actually said it
) .....which is a shame because as already mentioned the inspiration for the Snake character came from Kurt Russell as Snake Plissken in Escape from New York.....

I'm thinking Hugh Jackman or Viggo Mortensen in a bandanna.....

More than the issue of who get's to play which character...I really hope they manage to make a movie that live's up to the epic video game series....maybe there isn't a mere mortal alive who can step up to pull that off!

I agree that Kurt Russel is the image that came to mind the instant I saw this thread title. It's ingrained.

Sadly I also agree that he may be age inappropriate - though I'd love to see him cameo somehow, possibly in a flash forward sort of scenario such as "The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles" utilized to show us an elderly Indy.

Karl Urban is one of those names that both strikes me as right and as wrong. I admit, however, that I have a personal predisposition toward seeing him as Vaako from the Riddick franchise, no matter what else he stars in - and spent a large portion of my time watching Star Trek, being pulled out of the story by this association.

To be honest, I am sitting here drawing a blank for the most part. The one cement thought I actually do have is that I hope it is not Jeremy Renner.... he's a good actor and everything, but he's getting over exposed in this genre IMO.

what are your thoughts on having oliver stone directing it? now i'm thinking quentin tarentino just to see how many womens feet and old surfer music would go in with the action sequences

I'd be afraid to give it to Stone - as he's really, really hit or miss ( with more misses lately, remember Alexander - in any of the four or five cuts he kept going with? ). Sadly they'd probably pawn it off on any one of the new gun directors who keep getting every single action/comic/hero movie handed to them.

Tarentino would make it a Tarentino flick... and I'm not so sure I picture Solid Snake in the 1970's, filmed with old stock so that it looks like a Peckinpah flick.

I say hand it to Ridley Scott - and then edit out the gratuitous aria if he includes one.

Oh, and in reply to an earlier question that I missed. Andre the Giant died quite a few years back. But there is always Paul Wight - aka The Big Show.

His plate is probably full for awhile, playing Max Rocketansky in Mad Max and probable sequels.

maybe, but he has the right face and physic. I would like to see new faces for these type of movies. His is not very "new" but it is no Stalone. There are plenty of up and comers. Hell, I would take like to see an MMA fighters do some more work. They have proven to be good actors and believable.

BUT Tom Hardy is the best choice IMO.

edit on 11-2-2013 by zedVSzardoz because: (no reason given)

ridley scott kinda ticked me off with Prometheus. oliver stone has done a pretty good war flick but totally screwed up the doors. how about rain or toshiro mifune for the ninja? toshiro mifune if still kicking was awesome in street fighter and the samurai trilogy. downside is he's a fuddie, he's old but has good dramatic range. rain was good in ninja assassin. kinda whiney but capeable

Its sounds stupid but I think Tom Cruise with some beard would fit Solid Snake.

God, no more Huge names.

I want to see more up and coming stars.

I like 80´s action movies, but WHY did Stalone or Schwarzenegger have to play them all for the most part..?

Is their "AGGAHAGHAGHHH" better than others?
