If any of you have not seen "Unbreakable" starring Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson, please be warned that there are spoilers below.

----------------------------------------------------------

The basic plot synopsis, in relation to the thread title, is such.

Bruce Willis was born nearly invincible to all injury (except for drowing) because of his genetic makeup. Basically, his bones, muscle and tissue structure are all but impervious to injury or even fatigure. He also does not seem to be succeptible at all to illness.

Samuel L. Jackson was born with complete mirror symptoms from Bruce Willis' character. His bones are very very brittle, resulting in multiple severe fractures throughout his life, starting with him being born with his arms and legs broken. He also alludes to the fact that gets sick easily.

Basically, Samuel L. Jackson's character has a strong belief that comic books are simply a representation of legends long past that were based on truth. Though the comic books are highly exaggerated, he feels that they are secondhand retellings of things that were accepted as the norm in our past.

So, what I'm getting at is; Do you think M. Night Shyamalan's awesome little movie might possibly have hit on some good points (even if unintentionally)?

The idea certainly seems plausible to me. Sure, it's almost certainly very rare. But, the human body has proven to us time and time again that it is capable of feats we couldn't even imagine. It's also common knowledge that some people are born with better and strong bone and muscle structures. Would it really be so far fetched to assume that someone truly could be born with with an almost superhuman resistance to illness and injury?

Bruce Willis powers in that movie seemed to me to be more a man that chose to act, more then real super powers. Although he survived a few wrecks, it was intuition and being able to want to make a difference that was how he saved people.

Superheroes are real !

But I do believe their powers are shown as symbols of the true powers in many people.

Nelson Mandela was unbreakable, as are many others.

I also know a few people that can read minds. They are very good at empathising and knowing the thoughts and feelings of others.

I know a few with astounding memories

There are people that can walk through fire without getting burned

There are those that hunt the undead, (which in my view the undead are those that have given up there soul to darkness, not the elite socialites view of you and me as zombies)

I have seen people that can fly, they take a good heart and truth and soar with the eagles as they seem to not even touch the ground. of coarse Nazguls flew too, sigh...

Thought projection, jamming, and confusion seen them, but am on the fence if they are light or dark side, definitely leaning to dark side with the way they are usually used.

I have seen people that can spark the passions of people with only thoughts.

Things like that.

I really liked the show Mystery Men, even though it was silly, and a bit dark, the idea that we all have powers, and must chose which side to use them for, is a great story. And I would bet in the right context it tells a historical symbolic story I might disagree with, but that is just a guess.

Could not the digger be the guy who digs for information? You will see the shovel as a symbol a few more times now that its symbolism was mentioned, at least when watching pop culture.

And they got the invisibility guy completely right, that really surprised me.

This is an extremely cool topic, and it compelled me after lurking for years to finally register as a new member and able to post.

I am really interested in the distribution of human characteristics across the 'normal curve,' and it makes perfect sense to me that superhuman qualities could possibly be found, just as the result of statistical chance. We see it with general intelligence, artistic ability, etc., so why not that kind of stuff we saw in the movie.

I think the problem is that 'super' characteristics of the type to which we are referring, as least as far as I can tell, don't really occur in clusters...they tend to be isolated, but they can be found in a given population.

For example, hyperacuity of hearing, eyesight, etc. at the 99.9th percentile as compared to a particular sample is not hard to find...just go test a bunch of Delta pilots or visit an airforce base that billets fighter jockeys and you'll see lots of folks that fall on the 'superior' end of the curve. But try to get multiple 'superior' characteristics of this sort, say hypersharp vision and extreme running speed or endurance and you'll probably have a harder time.

One of the strongest guys I ever met could pretty easily bench press 605 six or eight repetitions, but was as dumb as a post. My guess is that he was at the farthest end of the distribution curve in terms of upper-body strength, but was far below average in measurable intelligence.

Anyway, that's my two cents. Thanks a million for a very excellent read

There is a guy named Michael Andrew Pero who claims to be a modern day superman. I started a thread about him and his alleged exploits a while back.

Here's a link to it.

Interesting couple of posts guys, thanks for adding/responding to the thread.

The concept has fascinated me for awhile and was fueled a bit by the movie.

I have ALWAYS lived a rough and rugged lifestyle. I use to race dirt bikes, go carts and dune buggies and have had so many crazy wrecks it's not even funny. I have been in car wrecks (never my fault luckily) that involved everyone BUT me breaking multiple bones and I personally have NEVER been injured.

I have never even had so much as a hyperextension. My bone density seems to be incredible.

While the basic gist of the movie doesn't apply to me (i have had maybe 2 colds in my life), I do seem to be a bit more resilient than most.

It's not hard for me to imagine someone being even more resilient than me both physically and health-wise. They would definitely fit the "Unbreakable" scenario.

Growing up, my superhero was Bruce Lee. That guy at 5' 7" and all of 140 pounds was super human with extraordinary abilities. Anyway, just one example I thought I would throw out there.

Of course, there was Jesus Christ, the original superman!

And what about the 300 that came very close to defeating all of those persian cowards?

We all have it in us, aside from the walking on water part obviously. But Jesus Christ was almighty so he could do that.

Which makes complete sense, the idea of psychologically unbreakable, is complicated and requires the need to understand characteristics that are admirable and good. Not something you would want to show the common people, so to get the message out to the people, the author sneaks it in as metaphor.

Also by being allegory, only the people tuned into allegory, those who learn the symbolism used in certain special secret groups out there, who always live in the world of speaking in code understand easily. Sometimes I think they let it through as a duel message, one to the people watching on surface level, one to people watching deeper.

Other allegory from that film.
Bad guy wore purple which is royalty
Good guy was a foot ball player, but got out by pretending not to be unbreakable because Love is more important then football. Note that NFL is common reference for the ugly dirty world behind the scenes in secret.

And the main character in one scene even explained to a guy wanting to buy a picture that most comic books(this film) over exaggerate the super hero. Just like allegory over exaggerates.

And he would not sell the picture when he found out it was going to a young child. Again the adult/child metaphor. Can't have the young ones(non elites) seeing this type of art work.

One more the bad guy said the villain always had large eyes, anyone think of a secret order that has a large eye. This one is so common it is plainly obvious.

One more, when Bruce Willis finally spoke to his wife, what did he say, I think I was having a bad dream (not awake) and am better now. His understanding that he did have power was him awakening. Have we heard this before? yup.

The royalty, who was actually weak, was responsible for the attacks, (9/11 anyone) all to flush out a super person, this is actually the same as a turkey round up. A turkey round up to flush out all those special people that faked the knee injury and did not join with the (cough cough) NFL, but I am stretching a bit here.

Ok I am on a roll now, going off topic

Not to mention there was a documentary that said the author had friends in black limosines pull up, discussing the plots for the movies maybe? Although this was debunked when the week after it was aired, Sci Fi channel was bought and new company said it was fake. And they would not put known marketing lies on TV.

Ok sixth sence

A ghost tries to help a little child understand how he can help other ghost and to not be afraid anymore. What if ghost are all the crap being done behind the scences by spooks, PR companies influcing writers.

Bruce Willis dies the day he gets the award from Mayor for being the best Child pshycologist, is that when he joined up?

Kid had glasses without lenses, he is one of the children (commoners) who can not see from different perspective.

When at the end he learns how to help other ghost, he is given a sword and the position of king in a play.

He understood the humor of the penny trick, others did not.

When he finally went up the stairs into the light, the gold ring fell on the floor, was this rejecting the ring of power, or him accepting it? don't know

When the adult poisoned the child, she was caught when the camera saw it, after the puppet show was moved aside. See through the puppet show catch the elites poisoning the commoners.

that's enough I guess. This is everywhere.

i feel that music, books, movies, etc all reflect on this sort of thing. think about it..our minds are one. so eventually what happened to YOU in the past, will eventually make its way to me as a thought. i jot that thought down and write a book or movie script off of it.. see where im goin with this? i believe in something along those lines.

I do understand, I even heard this exact thing mentioned. However, even if someone was able to build an image of me from thoughts, I do not agree in group consciousness, but do understand meme.

I got a great book, I have wanted to write, I just need an author who likes wild fiction. It has some great plot hooks in it I think.

Funny thought, the reason desktop AI worlds were created is to come up with new ideas for stories for the real world we are not in. So might we just exist to try and create a life worth recording?

The SG1 episode where they get plugged in for others to be entertained by their experience.

its like ..the leaders of society put this and that in our heads..meaning the populace right... the leaders have a vision of building their dreams to reality by forcing those thoughts upon us and make us believe in them. what happens when the majority of population believes in the same thing? that thing manifests into our physical reality. they invision war, victory and great success.. we fight the war, win the war, and get a pat on the back. they get multi billions over night and we dont even know their names. thought is a very powerful thing. you might want to write your own book, or at least write the ideas down and not think about them until the time comes when you can make the book a reality. otherwise someone is liable to pick up on the same thoughts. i find that very true with music. i'll write something and 6 months later the number 1 song on the charts is expressing the very exact idea i had written about months before. its because we're all programmed on the same main frequency that the elites want us to stay on so they can remain above us.

Well I don't know about same frequencies and such. And as far as who they are thats easy. Look at youtube link in my signature, they are easy to see.

I guess more people have to talk to friends. People need to spread info outside of just the Internet.

I actually started a book, but drifted away, there is a difference between technical writing skill and story skill. I might go back to it.
