The Shadow on the Stairs

OK first things first, hello i'm new to this forum but i had something happen a while back that i recently reported on another forum and someone said i should post it here...

So here goes.

About 6 months ago i was up quite late (around 1:30-2 am) and all through the night i had one of those "He's behind you" feelings. You know the one where you feel like someones standing over your shoulder.

So anyway i decided that it was time to drag my sorry butt up to bed and turned the room light off closed the door and began to climb up the stairs but all the time i still had this feeling that something was about two steps behind me.

When i got to the top of the staircase i was starting to freak myself really bad and it probably didn't help that the hall light wasn't turned on (So as not to disturb my kids) even though i don't scare very easy.

So i turned and looked back down the stair case (which has a wall on either side but also a half glass door at the bottom that lets in enough street light that i don't break my neck when i do this.) and there standing about halfway up i saw the shape of a large figure.

It looked like a shadow and thats why i was told to post this on here as it sounded like something you would be interested in. Although i couldn't make out any features it felt like a "man" if that makes any sense.

Now i know that some people may say it was a tired mind and i would have just put it down to that myself apart from the fact that after i came back out from the bathroom which is directly infront of the staircase my 7 year old daughter was standing there and the first thing she said was,"Daddy i think i've just seen a darkman coming up the stairs."

That's the part that really scared me.

So believe it or not but i just wondered if this was a "common" story on this forum.

Anyway hello once again and now i'm gonna have a look around this place.

Yeah, I know that feeling.......its kinda creepy, though so far I have been fortunate (or maybe unfortunate) to catch anything sneaking up behind me.

As your new here, you should probably ask some of the other memebers about shadow people, because that sounds like what you are describing. Personally Im not convinced of their existence yet

I would have said i imagined it as well but either my kid is psychic (which would be just as hard to believe) or we both saw the same thing within a matter of minutes...

Yeah it could have been that and since you both saw the same thing it's probably not a coincidence. Do you know the history of your house?.

man I know that feelin i seen shadowpeople before and according to my family my house is huanted

like you I have a stairway that is walled on both sides and man its creepy sometimes

Thanks for the feedback, the house is quite new (early 70's), but the village i live in used to be a Pit village (Coal mining) and there may have been older houses on the land before it was built.


Looking at the Shadow threads it looks like i'm not alone in this so it's good to know that i'm not going insane.

Ive had a couple run ins with these shadow people. As of right now the house I live in used to be owned by some really bad people and the house is pretty bad. we had to call a priest in to get rid of the shadow people that would wander around the house.

Let me ask you a few questions just to get some clarification on your situation, are you and your husband going through some rough times, fighting alot? shadow people are known to manifest when people have depression or anger.

What do they look like? Are they tall and skinny? with lanky arms and legs and slightly huntched over? do they wear hats? and have you seen more than one, or was the one on the stairs the only one you've seen?

A visitation

Two decades have passed since I had an experience similar to the one you report you have witnessed.
The scenereo is identical - stairs, shadow, eerie sensation of a presence and finally a manifestation.
In my situation the manifestation was one of a tall painfully thin female scruffily attired in a waistcoat and long dress. I called her Cinderella due to her unkempt appearence.
She glanced at me on the landing and passed through the bedroom door.
This encounter shook all scepticism from me.
The family reported her passings over the years. We learned to live with our uninvited guest.
I embarked on a fact finding spree doing local research over a few months to try to establish who she could be.
Success came when I browsed the local newspaper archives in the local library and found a probable lead in the form of an obituary. She died aged 18 on the 18th May 1955. -The day that I was born and lived at home ( a farm) 3 miles away. I cannot recall the cause of death. Nor do I understand fully why the regular visitations.

Ok if you want details i'll try and describe it a bit better...

The shape was large, if i had to guess about the 6ft mark and wide (what would be called broad shouldered if it was a human). I sort of "felt" it as well just plain seeing it. The form was stongest and more obvious around the head and shoulder area and from there it got fainter as you looked down.

Even though i couldn't make out any features (sorry no evil red eyes here) i could still feel it looking up at me for where it was standing.

I looked back at it for what i guess was only about one, maybe two seconds before it faded out (bearing in mind that this was a while back). It was like if you can't focus on something and you blink but when your eyes open it's gone.

So of course this made me think it was a tired mind or a trick of the light. However I discounted the second option as the only light source was the door window and any light/shadows from outside would have had to "bend" to reach the figures position on the staircase.

There was an air of menace about it, but heck that could just be my fight or flight reaction kicking in.

As I said before I wouldn't have thought any more about it but when I came out of the bathroom my daughter said she'd seen it too before I even had time to ask her what she was doing up.

The next morning I asked her what she had seen and she said it had been a "darkman" coming up the stair towards her. I was even careful not to lead her by saying anything that might change her story.(I hadn't mentioned that I had seen it too, to her the previous night so as not to scare her).

As for the enviroment in the house well I have a good family group with only the minor everyday troubles that everyone goes through.

I maybe should tell you that during that year I was involved with the Church of England clergy training program. I had to pull out of this however as work commitments ment I couldn't find the time to continue. Don't get me wrong i'm no Bible basher and don't even go on a regular basis now, I just have an interest in theology.

Once again I would say that this may mean that I was more likley to see ghosts and deamons around every corner but it still doesn't account for my daughter seeing the same thing as she never goes to church and I don't talk about it with her.

The village is quite old and is famous for there being a mine disaster here about 150 years ago if that helps at all. But as far as I know all the mine workings where not underneath the present houses.

Anyway any more views on this are gratefully accepted.

Well I would look out for them, specially if the feeling is uneasy, its not a bad thing that you are seeing them though. they are letting you see them for a reason. it may take years to find out what that reason is.

you may also consider the option that the church was not the real deal, but a false religion, and it depends on your views weather you think there is a heaven or hell but it infact may be evils way of getting you back into the false religion.

are you still on the fence of your belifes? this might also contribute to what you are seeing.

i was unsettled by the thread i posted in and i think i had a short panic attack. which is rare for me. ive seen this thing twice and the first time it was standing in a room and i was walking by and saw through the doorway and it was looking to the left, it shifted toward me and quickly vanished; the second i looked up at it looking down at me and it dissapeared very quickly. i was feeling the "something else is in here" feeling the second time and i knew when i saw this that i was right.
like i said in the other post it reminded me of the Gman from half life games as like him it goes away when i notice it, just broader and taller.

Thanks for the feed back all. I only mentioned the whole CofE thing because what I was reading at the time may have coloured my feelings as to what this thing was.

However having said that I did get a real sense of menace from it, that and "power", (yeah I know it sounds melodramatic but it's true).

Trying to think back is a bit difficult as the last thing I want to do is make up details that I didn't see just to make it sound better. But if I remember right it's head seemed to flow up from it's shoulders with not much of a neck to speak of. Of course I was looking down at it from the top of the stairs and so wasn't looking at it square on.

Next, yes I have seen things like this before but never this close or for this long or had anyone else validate it.

And finally by career i'm a "problem solver" and I know the pitfalls to avoid when trying to figure something out. I will give you any info that might help but i'll try my best to only give the details that I know to be fact.
