Who, if anyone, has benefited from 9/11?

A lot of people, including myself, have speculated about the possible motives behind 9/11 - on the basis, of course, that it was some sort of self-inflicted wound.

We've had oil, dollar hegemony, Israel, domestic economy, suppression of civil liberties and a bunch of other reasons, no doubt.

But there's been no real consensus. Each theory has it detractors and ultimately, many refuse to believe that any of them would be adequate to compel a government to attack its own people.

So what about approaching this from another angle?

What, if anything, has been gained since 9/11 and, if this is not universal, then who are the beneficiaries? Has the US gained as a country, for example? Has corporate US gained at the expense of the average citizen?

What, if any, are the gains and how are these gains measured?

The military industrial complex is doing quite well. They are the biggest winner.
