Islam.
It preaches a lot about unbelievers. The Koran is filled with verses that tell you how these idolaters should be treated.
And how is that? With violence,of course!
But there is a verse that contradicts all of that...

The Cow.2:62.

Surely those who believe, and those who are Jews, and the Christians, and the Sabians, whoever believes in Allah and the Last day and does good, they shall have their reward from their Lord, and there is no fear for them, nor shall they grieve.

There is no hatred here.No violence. No intolerance.

Yet it gets overlooked in the same manner as this.Jesus said "turn the other cheek." Yet God said,

2 Chronicles.15:13.

Whosoever would not seek the LORD God of Israel should be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.

How do the followers of each faith know what to do when faced with such verses?
Each faith contradicts itself,so how can a follower truly serve God in the right way?
How can they,at the same time, tolerate and intolerate those of different religions?

That's why I avoid religion altogether. It forces you to accept a contradictory point of view, in more ways than just the example you presented. A fair majority of these religions are designed around keeping and recruiting followers, instead of matters of the spirit.

Often when confronted with something like this a religious person will ignore it completely, instead of reevaluating their personal philosophies.

This is the great tragedy of religion. They reel you in with happy little verses and feel good statements, but then fail to remind you of all the negativity contained within it's own doctrine.

Very true.Whats worse though, many don't even know all whats in their Holy Scriptures! They follow a faith but they know little about it.So many times on ATS/BTS i've had people say "well God/Jesus didn't say this or didn't do that." and i find verses to prove them wrong. It seems I,the non-believer,know more than them, lol.

I also find that with many Christians, they completely ignore the Old Testament because its teachings are different than Jesus' and their's a lot more violence. But God and Jesus are one and the same so you can't pick and choose what you want to believe. You have to believe all the Bible or none of it!

...well,Christians don't totally ignore the Old Testament, they use 3 things from it.Creation.the 10 Commandments. And that line about Homosexuality being an abomination...

My neighbour is a Muslim. He left Iran when he was in his late 20's and it was only then that he read all of the Koran from start to finish, and it was the first time he knew that the quote I mentioned was in it!
