CIA Uses Ghostbusters Logo -- Terrorism

weblogs.baltimoresun.com

As others have reported, the CIA has a terrorist-busters logo inspired by the Ghostbusters logo from the 1980s movie. The main differences? The malefactor in the CIA's logo is carrying an automatic weapon and has a vague jack-o-lantern face. The ghost in the Ghostbusters logo looked more benign.

First in their comments field, "I can't imagine my tax dollars for a logo my kid could of come up with!"

What are they actually planning on using this for? It's bizarre and kind of odd looking.

So now we have logos with people holding weapons on official US organizations...I guess they made it look cartoonish to not look totally nazi.

The logo seems to say "Disturbing the peace is forbidden" to me.

Once again, reality becomes indistinguishable from satire.

Thought to follow this up. Thought it was another joke and I've been had -- yeah, it's not, take a guess what year Ghostbusters came out? 1984! Russia should be upset about this -- the AK-47 is their invention!

The logo has been in use by the CIA's counter-terrorism office in Langley, Virginia, for six years but only recently came to wider consciousness with much scorn from bloggers on the internet.

Some questioned why the terrorist is black while the ghost is white. Some wondered why taxpayers' money had been spent on designing the logo and others simply thought it must be a joke.

The intelligence agency said that the logo was not intended to offend anyone and was designed to reflect "the determination and spirit of those who were working tirelessly to overcome what we still know today to be a truly dangerous threat".

It also said that the symbol was not designed to represent any specific terrorist group or individual.

Clearly not just a joke, check out the CIA's website.
