It was a cold rain falling. The sky was dark. The only light was the light that came from the house. The house where she stood on the porch and
waited. Not knowing what she waited for, she knew something was coming. She could feel it.
The lights in the house flickered, but stayed on. The cats and dogs were screeching and howling. The dogs wanted out. She would not let them out
for fear of what would happen to them.
There was no one there to help her. Her husband was out of town for the night and the nearest neighbor was miles away. She started shaking as she
stood there.
A bright flash in the sky and then a bang. "It's here" she thought to herself. The dogs started barking. "I have to do something, but
what?"
She ran into the house and turned all the lights out. Needing her eyes to adjust to the darkness. She put the animals in her bedroom, she closed the
door.
Once back in the living room, she stood at the big picture window hoping to see something. Yet praying it was not there. Hearing a cracking noise,
she knew it was coming up the gravel driveway and getting closer.
Running into the kitchen, she grabbed the big cast iron skillet. She went to the front door and stood behind it and waited. Minutes passed and
nothing. Debating should she open the door, she slowly turned the knob with the weapon held high above her head, ready to be swung.
The door was slowly pushed opened. With her arm held high, she started to swing, but her arm was grabbed and the skillet dropped.
"What are you doing?" a voice commanded.
"I thought you were it! The thing from sky!" she cried. "There is something out there!"
"You've had another bad dream, there is nothing there." her husband assured her.
As he leads her into the house on that cold rainy night, she thinks to herself, though it wasn't this night, the time draws closer when it will.
