Shortly before he died, one of Israel's most prominent rabbis wrote the name of the Messiah on a small note which he requested would remain sealed until now. When the note was opened, it revealed what many have known for centuries: Yehoshua, or Yeshua (Jesus), is the Messiah.

Interesting and controversial to some.

Rather anti-climatic, isn't it? Now what?

Id say so.

It did not cause an uproar in Israel. What I did find interesting is the several Rabbi's that said Messiah would return when Ariel Sharon’ passed.

Maybe to someone who lacks an understanding of the Jewish faith. Might I suggest that you ask a Jewish friend/acquaintance what his/her beliefs, regarding Jesus, are. This "surprise" might make more sense to you then.

I am more than familiar with the Jewish faith; including their views on Jesus.

As etshrtslr said, it isn't causing an uproar in Jewry. Which is the only true surprise, IMO.

The secret note said:

Concerning the letter abbreviation of the Messiah's name, He will lift the people and prove that his word and law are valid.

This I have signed in the month of mercy, Yitzhak Kaduri

The Hebrew sentence (translated above in bold) with the hidden name of the Messiah reads: Yarim Ha'Am Veyokhiakh Shedvaro Vetorato Omdim

The first letter of each word in the Hebrew sentence are supposed to indicate the name of Messiah:

YHVSVO

It appears that the method for dealing with such a revolutionary idea, for the Jews, is to either suppress the information or else claim that the note is a forgery.

um...who says that this is the same yeshu that the christians worship?

and...doesn't the bible already name the messiah "Emmanuel" or "god is with us"

Yeshua is Hebrew that means "The Salvation of God". This name is most often spoken as "Joshua" for us English folk. The name Jesus comes from an abbreviated form of this word. Like calling Joshua "Josh".

As far as "Emmanuel". that's a title or position, not a name.

Is there more than one? If so what a coincidence having two messiahs with the same name.

Just a few small observations - What makes this rabbi's word so special? Where does his authority come from? I mean a man at 107-108 years old will not have all his faculties and therefore this should be taken with a pinch of salt. Even his son says its a forgery (not his handwriting) - can't say better than that eh?

NO wonder no-one is bothering with this

If his son denies its his fathers handwriting and the father requested the message be opened one year after his death, then it looks like we might have a conspiracy.

What exactly did the father request be opened one year after his death?

Somehow, this doesn't really surprise me. Despite the fact that Jews are still waiting on their "Messiah," a figure who is little more than a politician, it stands to reason that some would have considered Jesus the Messiah.

Bunk!

That is all. It has no substantiating data or researchable links.... BS as far as I can tell. The only secret that I have hear is held in Jewish mythology is the actual name of God. The rest is LOL.

What exactly is bunk?

The one Rabbi who says he knows the name of the messiah?

Or his son that says his letter is forged?

Or is the bunk an assault to your beliefs, whatever they may be?

Please explain.

In my part of the world its not uncommon for Jews to convert to Christianity or for christian to convert to judaism.

So for a Rabbi over 100 years old to make that statement (if in fact he really did) I am not that surprised.

Equally I would not be surprised if Pat Roberson said he was converting to Judaism.

Stuff like that just happens every so often.

it's a fairly common name... even the bastardized form of it has become common.

there's nothing indicating that it's the same guy. there could even be living people with the name "yeshu"

Madness, conjecture if you want. However, a blue bird is still blue.

it's not conjecture, it's just a refusal to make an assumption. that's all you're making by saying "it's jesus from the bible"
a massive assumption

Yeah, Madness, I am real sure that a RABBI is going to say that some Joe Shmole person off the street by the name of Jesus is the Messiah... Makes perfect sense.
Really, Madness, you are arguing from a steep cliff on this one.
