I rarely watch TV, but I ocassionally watch sports events because the are fun and positive in comparison to the ultra-mega-super-negative programming
otherwise seen on TV. In fact I think wars should be carried out as sports-events. Healthy competition rather than blood and guts.
The way TV can be viewed as "mind-control" is in the sense of a rapid number of pictures, sounds, emotions and words implanting certain concepts of
reality (thoughts, beliefs, attitudes, ways of life) as normal or acceptable.
But the bias is not only a bit negative. Its far from balanced. The 8 oclock news does not mean news but mainly mans bad news with a little
"positive" note at the end of the news programm. But these "positive" endings are usually so mundane they do nothing to uplift or educate me after
a series of violence, doom and rage shown before.
Am I suggesting no more negative reporting? Of course not. I am suggesting balance. I want to see examples of peace, prosperity, projects, success on
the news as well.
I once worked for a news-channel and their philosophy was:
a) If there are no pictures, its not news
b) The biggest problems equal news
This means that balanced or positive news bores people and makes their ratings go down. "Bad news" is viewed as some type of action-entertainment.
Its more important to show the victims of something than go to the root cause of an issue and examine it.
Apart from the negative programming the other type of programming is "positive" programming but only in the sense of "things YOU will never
achieve". We are shown pretty faces, fancy cars, lush island paradises and perfectly formed bodies....but always with the message implied "thats far
away from YOU. You need to earn it! Take up a credit!"
The third kind of mind-control is related to sound & picture running so rapidly that it bypasses critical examination.
