Violence in Iraq drops sharply: Ministry.

By Aseel Kami

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Violence in Iraq has dropped by 70 percent since the end of June, when U.S. forces completed their build-up of 30,000 extra troops to stabilize the war-torn country, the Interior Ministry said on Monday.

The ministry released the new figures as bomb blasts in Baghdad and the northern city of Mosul killed five people and six gunmen died in clashes with police in the holy Shi'ite city of Kerbala south of the Iraqi capital.

Get ready, I predict the democrats will attempt to end the war again now. This kind of news is very bad for the democrats.

Wow, what a surprise....
Positive news and no one bothers to post... I guess if it's not a thread about how "Eeeevil" America and George Bush are, people don't want to take the time to post... Yeah, big surprise there.

Positive news = bad for the Dems. Why do you think Pelosi et. all pushed the whole Turkish genocide bill? Create another front to create further instability in an already tenuous situation. Anything to create/facilitate more bad news and undermine the current effort. Sad really.....

Finally some good news from Iraq.

Hopefully this is a turning point and will only get better from here.

This kind of news is good for everyone if less people are dying. Maybe you should be glad more because of less people dying than to chalk one up for your team.

Yes, I was one of those who didn't think the surge would work only because this administration has messed everything else up till then. It's not like they have a good record. It's kind of like kicking a field goal after your down 30 zip.

Wow Speaker, you too obviously don't care about the people being killed, you just want to stick it to someone.

By Aseel Kami? I would rather hear what Scott Ritter had to say about a 70% decrease in violence.

Aseel Kami? Well there is certainly no bias there.

Thanks for the post.

70% reduction in violence eh?
Sounds like it's budget time again... what do you know...

Yes. the surge is working in some parts. Places where there is an abundance of US forces. Thats the way it has always been. The US comes into a neighborhood, kicks some ass and then the insurgents head somewhere else. Rinse. Repeat.

Had the OP discussed the ENTIRE article, you can see the "bandaid" approach continuing...and failing.

However, in the northern province of Nineveh, where many al Qaeda and other Sunni Arab militants fled to escape the crackdown in Baghdad and surrounding region, there had been a 129 percent rise in car bombings and a corresponding 114 percent increase in the number of people killed in violence.

Until the positive elements of this surge become a trend - we might want to wait to call it a success.

Looks like there is plenty of crow to go around.

Down 70%

Anyhow, thank you as always Twitchy, for all your research and bringing us the truth.

Just one more thing: I wouldnt cut off my nose to spite my face and i dont think others would; If this WERE true, i would be very happy. Yes, i would be happy for humanity as a human. But as it turns out its nothing but propaganda and lies as usual.

Why all the extra work just to post a new story? This is the terrorism forum, is it not?

Dgtempe, do you have anything, anything at all, to show that this is just "propaganda and lies" or is this just not what you want to hear?

Twitchy, I am certain that most will not read even the tittles of all those threads you posted. Good tactic, you have given the appearance of denying ignorance and putting much hard work into this, but a scroll down your list shows nothing but anecdotal evidence and irrelevant posts.

Cavscout cannot believe the 70% figure either, however Cavscout chooses to withhold judgment until all the facts are on the table.

The fact that the first thing Twitchy did was compile an argument against this news and Dgtempe swallowed his hook without any apparent object thought tells me that people are still more interested in their own brand of bias.

Like I said, I doubt the 70% figure. I do want to see truth more than anything, however, so I feel no urge to discredit a story in order to support my bias.

Well it was really the quoting style that got my attention more than the news element. Just trying to help you out; it's always better to shorten your quote the way you want it than have a mod decide what goes.

Good news!

I hope this is an absolute truth. I've heard they've been messing with the definitions of what "violence" or "casualty" is in Iraq. I hope this isn't a 70% decrease in violence due to the adjusting of what the word "violence" entails in combat.

It wasn't hard work cavscout, I merely looked through today's news. Tactic? LOL paranoia will destroy ya.
As to most people 'not reading even the titles of all those threads I posted', I could care less what you choose not to see or read, it's your mind. Statistics can say anything, and anything can say statistics, but when it comes right down to it, Iraq is a terrible violent place where people are dying daily. There is already talk of a Kurdistan, a Turkish Invasion, War with Iran, Afghanistan is worse as ever, so when a statistic comes out saying violence is down 70%, it pisses me off to see it trumpeted and hearalded as some kind of grandiose affirmation of the continued deployment of American soldiers to a war they had no business being sent into in the first place. You should see some of the other statistics that are NOT being heralded in the US media...
Even sicker is the paritsan crap you guys are attaching to it.

So we have to be pro-war to be pro-american these days? Have to support our leadership whatever the costs? You gonna wave the flag just as high when Hillary or whoever sends our boys into lately-istan? Germans waved their little flags and cheered their leaders too in the late 30's, they were being good patriotic germans. Maybe your just being a good patriotic american, but nobody's sticking it to your country. It's not YOUR country, for one thing, assuming your an american, it's OUR country see, and this is called dissent, and it's a protected freedom that some of us choose to exorcise when we feel that we have been lied to by the 'elected' leadership, and are spending billions of dollars and sending our fellow countrymen to their deaths.
I think you need to figure out the difference between sticking it to YOUR country, and sticking it to the people that hijacked it for their own purposes.
I'll show you what I'm talking about...

See, you have affirmed my belief that for you it is all about sides.

Just what side I am on Twitchy? What "partisan crap" are you referring to?

Any person who does not immediately seem to be on your side is against you?

I support the truth, not a blind partisan outlook.

So you tell me what part of the partisan crap you think I adhere to.

Oh, but I'm sure that it would be fine to spend that money to help heroine addicts have clean needles to continue their habit, huh? You know, like they're doing in California..

As far as having to wave the flag if Hillary gets in, I'm not worried about it... God willing, that is not a disaster we'll ever have to encounter.

The dems real purpose for pushing the Turkish genocide bill was to close off the main US supply line to iraq, which runs through Turkey. They could never get the votes to do anything in Congress to end the war, so they tried this back door method of jerking around one of our allies. Looks like that is now failing as well. Nevermind that if Turkey got pissed and abruptly cut off the supply line, it would be our own troops (who the dems swear they support) that would end up paying the price.
