I've been an avid outdoorsman and hunter all my life. Recently, I read an article about the rise of Bigfoot sightings in Centeral Virginia. This interests me alot and was wondering if anyone has seen one in Virginia or heard about sightings in VA. As I'm writing this I know of a Bigfoot investigation going on at a wildlife management area that I've been all over and haven't seen a thing. Just wondering if there's any credability to the rumors.

I grew up on SW VA (near where in joins TN, NC). I don't have any first hand sighting from there to report myself. I remember hearing some of the old farmers sometimes talk about seeing or hearing a BF like creature. But, it wasn't like there was a ton of sightings. It was a rare thing from what I remember. Seeing panthers / cougars was much more common - even I saw on of those in that area.

Never saw one myself. I have camped extensively throughout the Lake Moomaw area - mostly on the Western side in unimproved, natural settings for up to a week at a time. My buddy who is from Northern VA has told me countless stories about BF sightings all through that area. I even asked one of the locals (jokingly) at the bait shop who swore he saw one once, up in the foothills. It's extremely remote out there, so... who knows. If BF does exist, Moomaw would be an ideal place for him/her to be. The area is beautiful as well.

I live in Lynchburg VA, but my two oldest brothers live around Long Dale Furnace, about an hour north west of me, near a town called Clifton Fordge. My one brother lives right by the cow pasture river, and we go camping there alot. He has a large field before you get to the river, and an old abandoned camp ground is right next to that. If you walk threw the old camp ground to the end you come to a Y in the river. My brothers both were walking threw there at night and heard something like growling or howling, the way my brother immitated it was chilling. A few months later my husband and I were camping by the rivers edge and we heard simmilar sounds coming from the camp ground side of the area. In the spring I plan on going in with my night vision camera and taking a look. There are plenty of places around in there for something to live undetected, and I'd like to see for myself.

NoVA is so densely populated, there are over 1,000,000 residents (not incuding illegals) in Fairfax County alone (the most populus county in VA). The southern part of the county however does have some heavily wooded areas. Now Prince William County, if that is now included in the definition of NoVa, does have quite a bit of woodland.

You're more likely to run into Mexicans in the woods in NoVa than Bigfoot.
