Well, I don't see the need to go making predictions. My philosophy is to always be prepared for the worst case scenario. Just always expect a major change in your life and you will never be blind-sided.

Annubis..I do sort of live life like that..Today my oldest daughter announced she is pregnant..not married..I doubt my heart went up a beat.
Today education, marriage, ect are just obstacles I guess.

I guess what I was trying to imply is that you should stock up on supplies if you are unable to flee. Think to yourself: "Could I board up my house and remain enclosed with my loved ones for a month or more?"

Me (or possibly you): "Can I escape from civilization fast enough and survive in the wilderness for a month or more"?

Alaska is definately a place where you can potentially escape and then survive. To be honest I haven't even watched those videos yet. I have to go to work so that may be tomarrow.

Excuse me if this double posts..I thought I added that previous in this thread was a mention of destroyer or something like that at this time. Maybe it is a massive solar flare.. Knocks out satellites disrupting communications, military implications, GPS, Power grid.

Annubis great pic.. I set it as my desktop. To go further with the theory on solar flare/destructor thing...It could also make military believe satellites are under attack. I recently saw somewhere stating China is targeting Satellites. The US may interpret blinding of satellites as an act of war. Need a new neighbor in Alaska?

Morning BP, what's new? I was thinking about the satellite thing too, there's a really expensive dark matter detector sitting in the NASA lab, ready to go, not going on the shuttle mission since the cost of the shuttles are outweighting 'new' science missions.

From what I hear about 2011/12, there's gonna be no satellites left should there be a massive event. Maybe this is why they're milking the shuttle until 2010 to get better science on anything that could happen in the future.... just some thoughts...

...yeah, Annibus, that photo is interesting to say the least... and like I posted in your thread, DK, I doubt underground living is going to matter much in case of a impact of a comet's magnitude, maybe, underground cities -- whoever's "in-the-know" about that, we're all ears over here. Sure the affect on satellites would be huge. But how about other life on earth.
In history what is the intensity of the most massive solar flare on record.
At what levels does the cosmic radiation penetrate earth's magnetic field to potentially damage cells of living creatures?

Also keeping in mind MikeSing thread on recent SOHO photos/alien craft is it possible they are trying to shield earth...these two threads are related. We probabley couldn't be that lucky. Gosh I just moved to lunatic fringe..

... I don't know the solar flare potency/history without researching... I know there's been new data linking volcanoes to extinctions.... just read on some Mayan site about a 'pole shift' and electromagnetic field shift too; seems like they're tying it into quakes/rogue NEO... you're thinking/speculating -- what we like to call -- denying ignorance BP, no big deal, maybe the UFOs are trying to study the sun for us, remember there could be 'non-terrestrial officers' in the military.

Also, on the OP, that 'Brit dirty bomb' thread in the BN forum could relate obviously. We should try to keep this active for the month, let *them* know we're watchdogging. . .

Thanks..sure it is speculating. I had a teacher though in Master program that said the millionaires of the next 10 years likely won't invent any one new great thing. Rather it would be seeing connections and then combining common things for new usage/applications. Sometimes it doesn't hurt to take a step back and look at forrest instead of the trees.

Sure, it is a little cold up here, but if the solar flare theory does manifest it would be a great place to be. We are in no way facing the sun right now.

I think an impact from a comet or asteroid is unlikely since there are several agencies studying and following them. Unlikely, not impossible.

Would an intense enough solar flare melt the ice caps?

I'm getting nervous now. I've warned just about everyone that I think would listen. As far as gear goes, I am ready to brave the winter outdoors.

Another sign from the cosmos:
Yesterday, while walking the dog near Girdwood, I came across an abandoned campsite. I scored a nice tarp, some extra sleeping bags, and a bunch of clothes that happened to be my size.... wool and synthetics. I thanked God that he has given me foresight of this situation and also some extra supplies. If anyone is interested around here, there is still a coleman 4-season tent, some more clothing and sleeping bags, and some almond butter. It looks as if bears had jumped on the tent, but it isn't broken, just frozen. I took all the stuff home and let it thaw out in my bathtub. Score!

Get ready people. Is anyone else encountering "signs" like this?

I saw that dirty bomb thread. The threat did not just say dirty bomb specifically, but rather also "nuclear device", if I recall correctly.

I agree though, if awareness that we know this date is significant can spread, maybe we can alter their plans. However, we'll still be judged by our peers here. In all seriousness though, I don't believe we could influence it all that much.

...has your 'Secrets of DC' book gotten there yet? I thought I'd have mine by this months' start but no sign of it yet, maybe tomorrow.

You know what else I could see happening -- *they* roll out bin Laden for a holiday gift. Never know that he's not in prison already.... maybe they're calling him 'destroyer' -- not that I'd mind that over a comet/PX/asteroid strike.... but still, it'd be to calm the anti-war heads as Druggie goes lame duck soon.

I really can't believe this impeachment vote hasn't gone further, a $9 trillion deficit is sickening, and obviously their fault.

The potential for future bombings? Well, as long as the police/citizens do their *job* and keep a lookout for suspicious people/packages, there's nothing to worry about.
