'Superbug' deaths could surpass AIDS

www.msnbc.msn.com

More than 90,000 Americans get potentially deadly infections each year from a drug-resistant staph “superbug,” the government reported Tuesday in its first overall estimate of invasive disease caused by the germ.

this 'bug' is worse than aids because it is easier to get. Is it really resistant because of over use of antibiotics or has the government exposed us all to it to kill off a few?

So the article states that the actual cause of death of the 17 yr old was an inoperable blood clot but doesnt say if the clot was caused by the infection or not. I have children in public schools so I am paying close attention to this but the lack of conclusive details makes this article sound a bit like fearmongering, lots of statistics but no conclusions. For instance, twice the article states that the germ is resistant to antibiotics but is not resistant to other drugs, those drugs arent named just speculated on how overusage of these "other drugs" could cause resistance. The whole article is a bit skewed, kinda like the bird flu epidemic 2 summers ago, mosquitos before that, madcow before that etc. etc. etc.
Honestly, I feel like screaming to anyone who will listen "We are already scared to death of everything, we do not need a new epidemic announced every week to keep us blind and in control. "

did you read the other articles that i posted with it? the one about 21 schools closing because of the infection. from what i understand, the staph infection causes other things.

Yes I read the whole article, did you?
Not trying to be rude but the article really is a bunch of fluffed up statistics and big scary words, absolutley nothing fatual or concrete about a Superbug or staph infections. Go back read the article and leave the emotion out of it, as I said on the post above it's a bunch of fearmongering. I am not saying in any way that a Superbug is impossible, I think its very possible and would be very deadly, BUT this article is just trumped up alarmist fearmongering using our children as pawns to divert our attention.

Seconded.

While anti-biotic resistant bugs are a concern, the way this story is delivered is less like reporting and more like trying to scare the hell out of people.

The reality is fewer people die of these super bugs than they do of "normal" versions of the flu.
