i think it scares people into people into believing it . example: if you dont believe this your going to burn in hell for all eternity.
Satan is just used by the bible for an example to show what will happen to you if you dont believe in god or do anything that your not supposed to.

if your good on Earth you will be raptured into heaven while the non believers will die on Earth in the apocalypse.

when you start thinking about this religon doesn't seem all that great.

I agree, I think that it's an attention grabber for sure. When I was a kid I remember being scared into believeing that if I had even one unnatural or evil thought that I was going to hell and worms would be my blanket and I would burn forever. Of course as I got older I realized something was seriously wrong with religion period and decided to seek my own truth which I feel is much more realistic and tangible.

If we were meant to be like God then God wouldn't have made us human and make you reach for something that is unreachable.

But I can tell you it made my parents happy having nice stepford kids.

I used to believe in the devil and not Jeshua, because I knew something BAD was in this world!
Two times when I did something bad( I've already discussed these in other threads.), I saw and heard 'a' devil talk to me. Not nessesarily THE devil, but something EVIL.

To say it like Ray Comfort, The Gospel scares people the way someone who knows a plane has a bomb on it, set to go off, would scare people into putting on parachutes to jump out alive!
The people might not believe him/her, but at least they try!

Partly True! The Rapture or Harpazio, will catch up the believers to the marriaage supper of the lamb. Just like Lot was taken out of Sodom, and Noah was closed up in the Ark by the hand of God, Judgement was stayed until they were seperated!
Not all sinners will die during the tribulation, some will repent and NOT take the mark!
It will be hard to resist the New World order.
However, during the apocalypse, ALL who gather to make war with JESHUA will be decimated!

Pray and ask God what He thinks. You might be surprised!

I believe that religion has been used as a tool by the powers that be to make people do the will of the state, yes. Was religion originally designed as such? No, I don't think so.

there's no other reason,if there was no scare tactic to it what would be the purpose of it? just think... if you were never told about a place like hell... would you still feel the need to worship a man.?

yes, that is exactly what i think.
it is all about scare tactics and guilt trips.
people that let themselves get guilted into feeling like they need to do this or that cause of sins...
it's all a major guilt/head trip.
hopefully people realize this before another few thousand years go by

I don't think it's unrealistic to say that there are consquences for bad decisions, but yes, some religious people over-emphasize the scary. Too much stick and not enough carrot. I've met many individuals who feel that the scare routine was the best way to get their message across. It has merit but that shouldn't be the main focus to get your attention.

Religion generally provides both the stick and the carrot. There's a bit of fear put into you that something not too good will happen to you if you die and you've been bad. On the other hand, you're promised a very delicious pie in the sky when you die if you've been good.

And since most of us are generally a bit apprehensive about what happens when we die, those two things working together have a pretty strong effect.

Also, people like rules and laws, because they want to feel protected against bad people. Rules and laws laid down by religion provide a kind of security blanket. Churches get people organized for their common defense.

So there are some good things that come out of it. The problem comes when different religions with different viewpoints come into conflict with each other, or religious organizations gain enough power to force people to comply against their wishes. Fortunately, in this century, if you don't like a religion, you don't have to join.

Kevkevkev,
I'm telling you because I believe it!
I used to be an unbeliever until I had enough of this world!
I felt like an OLD lady at 19!
I was suicidal and depressed because of MY sins, but I didn't understand why. When I was 23, I asked Jesus to forgive me, Whoosh!!!
I became a new person in the blink of an eye. Like a child again!
I've studied the bible for 14 years and it's MORE true to me, now.

I don't think religion scares anyone into believing anything except maybe small children.. but even then, is it religion or just the parenting?

I was raised as a catholic, never scared into practicing or into going to church or none of that.. now im a full blown agnostic and really have no idea whats going on and i'm not scared of anything

comfortably numb i guess you could say

When I was little I use to think religion was a great idea, If everyone stuck by the 10 commandments this world would be a lovely place. Also the aspect of you spending your "afterlife" burning in hell for eternity was also a good way to get people not to commit any crimes etc...

Then as I got older I see people fighting in different countrys all over the World over their religious beliefs and I found it quite ironic that they would kill for their belief.

I'm not a religious person myself and I often ask people who are religious how they got into it. I find that most of the time it's because their parents forced it on them at a young age, so in a sense it's like they have been brainwashed from an early age and had it drummed into their heads that their religion is the correct one, and everyone else is talking rubbish.

I think organized religion does try to scare young people. I'm more of an agnostic now. I feel if God exists then God created free will and doesn't 'care' if you believe in God or not. Nobody goes to hell, even evil people. Everyone is forgiven by God after they die. The way you want to live your life is up to you.

I'm not a big fan of organized religion anymore. I go to church 2 times a year for religious holidays just because I want to please my parents. I also don't think the world would be a better place without religion. It would be the same and we'd still be fighting by using something besides religion as an exuse for war. Personal religion is fine with me though as long as you don't force your religion onto others. I don't think Jesus would have wanted people to force others into converting to a different religion or for his followers to found christianity. In fact, I think Jesus would have been against organized religion just like I am.

Totally agree on the religious scare tactics.
However still wondering how Karma fits into this... i'm not religious (more spiritual) but karma always seems to get me like a boomerang.

Religion was created for keeping weak-minded sheeple in check. Anyone who follows a religion has a need to be "led" and is of weak mind and constitution. They need someone to tell them right from wrong and how to behave.

Strong minded, independent good people have never needed a religion to guide them and function better without it IMO.
