I've often wondered if the sudden burst of sugar substitutes on the market has helped contribute to the obese problem on the rise in the US. I don't think that's the only cause, but wonder if it's a contributing factor.

Almost like your body forgets how to process normal starches as it encounters the artificial replacement?

They started putting chemicals into the food and water supply over a hundred years ago and are continuing to increase it because people's bodies get accustomed to it and they don't show symptoms until it's already done it's damage.

Some people are fortunate enough to feel the effects of this toxic stuff so they can stop ingesting it before it's too late. You are probably one of those people who will end up with alzheimers or worse... then it will be too late for you.

It's a lot of different chemicals. Aspertame, MSG and other chemicals called "excitoxins" are added to the food to make them taste better. They also cause addiction in that they actually interfere with the body's ability to monitor the appetite.

The link to obesity is very strong with these ingredients; if you eat a lot of foods containing MSG or similar substances, you will find it very difficult to stop eating. That's because MSG harms the normal function of your endocrine system and it disrupts your appetite control system. So even though you may be physically full from eating, your brain tells you you're still hungry and you overeat. If you've ever felt like you are eating unhealthy foods but couldn't stop eating them, it could be because you've been poisoning yourself with MSG. If you stop consuming foods with MSG, you may be able to rebalance this natural system and return to healthy, normal appetite control.

Source: Many "natural" foods contain questionable taste additives like yeast extract

It's proven that artificial sweetners actually make you crave simple sugars and carbohydrates.

Oh, those catch 22's that corporate force are so very proud of.

What, you addicted to this poison or just working for the gov't???

Every time you scream "Disinfo agent" or rant like the above, it lessens how much I want to consider your point of view.

You need to calm down, man..

I've heard about aspartame being bad for you. I've also read about things such as olestra which are just nasty. But raving like a mad man at those who don't agree, turns people off.

Burn the witch, for she doesn't agree with me calling her a witch.. Nah..

Aspartame is a phenethylamine chemically closely related to the SSNI Effexor (venlafaxine)

Both substances have showed to be potent neurotoxins in rodents over many experiments by many researchers...

You have to ask yourself whether you believe the research of a pharma company financed group of academics over the research of academics who have no vested/financial interest in the substance concerned...

I know who I put my faith in...Gimme sugar over this stuff any day...

Peace

If that is true (I'm not doubting you, just I have not looked into it) then that is DAMN SCARY.

Having been on that in the past, and having detested it to the hilt.. my god.. And I knew what I was getting into.

It reminds me of when I was in hospital for a severe leg wound, and was given a pain killer - I felt the noticeable sensation that Id gotten from other SSIR's and couldnt fathom why I was experiencing it. Cold sweats, blurry vision.. I hated it.. When I got home, I looked it up.. Lo and behold, it was an SSRI that they had given me, that was also a pain killer. I cant remember the name unfortunately.

Yet had I gone to a doctor, I would have had to been diagnosed with depression to receive it.

They just give it out at hospital..

SSRI/SSNI et al are not safe. In my honest opinion, they are as much a problem as illegal stimulants/psychedelics to those who shouldn't be on them.

there's a wealth of threads on the subject already, for those who hear about aspartame's side effects for the first time.

www.abovetopsecret.com...

here's a post i've written a while ago: www.abovetopsecret.com...

summary: if you don't like the results, demand more 'stringent' studies, which take ages to comlete and cannot possibly be done by independant people. if it takes poisoning thousands of lab rats to prove that formaldehyde is toxic, it's no wonder these people can get away with anything for a long, long time.

Yes, a newbie here, since I saw this thread, I really felt a need to reply, as this one seems to affect me directly, so I signed up. I have been reading these boards for a long time now, and finally signed up. Thanks for the informative, interesting reading everyone!

Anyway, I remember when aspartame came out....one drink from a soft drink containing it for me, and I become deathly ill. I get a migraine headache, get dizzy, nauseated, and this lasts for *days*. I usually end up in the hospital from dehydration, and extreme pain. Not my idea of a good time.

I am also very sensitive to other chemicals such as MSG that they stick in oh so many foods. MSG alone has over 30 alternative names, and folks, if it's under a certain percentage of the listed ingredients, they don't even have to list it! Anything "ultrapastuerized" is also suspect. I will happily list those names if anyone cares to know what they are. Just ask.

Since eliminating all of these from my diet, I have not had a cold or the flu in well over 5 years- yes, that's right folks, not a single contagious disease in over 5 years. No, I don't get flu shots every year, and No, I don't avoid sick folks. I go about my usual business like normal. Even my doctor asked how we managed this one, and I told him- now he recommends it to his other patients who are fighting with frequent colds and flu. These chemicals are poison to our systems- regardless if they are aspartame or MSG- or whatever!!! If they didn't come from nature, they don't belong in our bodies, plain and simple. I don't think it takes a rocket scientist to figure this one out. If you all need proof, come rummage through my medical records. Anyone who shows up at my front door can easily do so, and I'd happily allow them to, just to prove what I'm saying, since this site is all about backing up what you say. I have no problem with that whatsoever.

I haven't read the recent studies on any of these chemicals- I just know what they do to me, and others I have met across the USA.

Take care folks and have a terrific week!

Aspartame was invented 20-years ago (approximately) as a rat poison, it was then picked up and pushed strongly by that ass hat Rumsfeld, manufactured by Monsanto whom is now also forcing their GM foods upon us. Yea this is a real nice company and we already know that Rumsfeld is serving in our best interests, NOT! Do you really believe that governments do not work to cull their own populations, especially in a nation that is said to be grossly overpopulated? Look at other countries, what makes America so special? Actually, funny thing I read that I think it was in Japan they refused to use Aspartame products, now that is scary!

I can speak from personal experience here, I use to love my soda pops, big time. I have not had one for about 4-months now, after suffering heavy withdrawal symptoms (I stopped cold turkey), I mean I had a migraine for 3-days straight for god sakes, I was vomiting, and had to take some nasty "twocies", I thought I was hooked on crack or something, total chemical dependency withdrawal symptoms here! I also stopped shopping at major retail outlets and only shop at Whole Foods (and trader Joe's), no more eating out, no more fast-food, none of that crap. I now feel so much better, I use to suffer frequent headaches since I was young (I drank soda pops even then), now the number of headaches and migraines I get has gone down to 0-2 per week, which it use to be 0-6 per week (but very rarely would I go a week without one or two, now I mostly have been getting 0-1 but a few times I got 2 in one week, but none of them have been very bad, since I altered my diet).

My skin has cleared up so much, I suffer from cystic acne, but now it has reduced itself by about 80%, I am about 32 now and have had to live with this nasty acne since I was about 16.

My vision sucks, but it feels a little more clear then previously, but it is not great.

I feel more alive and awakened, not so sluggish, tired, and whooped, jaded, I use to walk around in a daze or trance feeling like whats the point, as if my perception was imagined, as if I did not matter. That is all gone now.

Funny thing to during my first month after my initial withdrawals I noticed my motor skills were affected, it was hard to type, my thinking was a little foggy, I had to really concentrate to do physical things, be I feel better now, I no longer feel like that.

I no longer have urges for what I call synthetic food and beverages, heh. I am enjoying this organic thing, I like my fruit carbonated beverages, they test better and are healthy. Sure my grocery bill is up by about 20% or so each week, but I realized I put Mobile1 Synthetic in my cars so why would I not splurge on feeding my body as well!

I was so motivated about this I even made a newsletter the Health Improvement Datamine: defendindependence.org...

Excellent RexxCrow! You have done the right thing by refusing the poison. Something that may help get through the detox - cleansing products from health food stores. They can push the remaining toxins out of your body and you'll probably feel better much faster.

Check out the Food Factor message board: (www.foodfactor.com.... Lots of really good information and articles.

Thanks, yea we did that we (me and my wife) went with the GMC 7-day full body cleanse after we finished their 3-week detox flush kit, but we did not start doing those until 1-month after we changed our diets, until then I drank a lot of water and tea, to give my body some time to cleanse itself before taking the treatments, (I think I needed it the most, she was never really big on soda and sweets, not like me, heh). The cleanse kits were not as bad as I thought they would be, I was worried I was going to be stuck on the pot 24/7, LOL.

* Oh another thing is daily supplements, we went with the GMC ones, they are totally natural, we use to take those one a days, but I read that all those ones at the supermarkets, along with TUMBS, and such actually contain 50% carbon and that does nothing for you, so you are actually get much less then you think you are as far as vitamins and minerals go. Also, the GMC ones cut the dosage down by 1/2 and you take one in morning and one in evening with your meal, so you have better chance to absorb them vs. one massive dose of fake supplements of which your body will only pickup a little of anyways and contains carbon, which is probably not all that good for you to be ingesting at any rate.

You covered it in a big way, Proto...And let me say what you did cover was awesome

I mean its so hard to cover all the stuff we ingest with one time limited project...

But as I said, you did a fine job

Its a matter of taking what you did, and what has come up in the last week or two and putting it in a place where people can treat it as a reliable resource as to what they should think twice about putting in their bodies...

Peace

Wow, looks like we're bringing back the late 90's internet scaremail about aspartame. I have a new one, how bout we circulate a scary email about how life has been found to eventually cause death in virtually all who live it. If people would just wake up and NOT live, then they could avoid illness and eventually death. Don't dwell on aspartame people, there are plenty of other grocery store horrors, remember margarine is only ONE molecule away from plastic. Doesn't that frighten you guys? It scares the living crap out of me! Anyway, seriously, why does nobody ever bring up that our life expectancy is higher now than ever?

www.livescience.com...

I think the main illness brought on by aspartame, corn syrup, and margarine is hypercondria, and it can be very debilitating. The prescription: breath into a paper bag, crack open a sparkling diet cola, and chill out.

I think you missed they yaws, the croup, the vapors, and the heebie-jeebies. Actually, I prefer Splenda, although that'll probably kill me, too.

At least I don't smoke.

Yeah, Splenda is just as bad... I think it's got chlorine in it, there's lawsuits against them too... want the research?

You say life expectancy is up but death from cancer, heart disease, alzheimers and parkinsons is WAY UP.
Hmm..and they all just happen to be diseases linked to aspartame and other sweeteners

I think the "non-belevers" are taking for granted just the kind of people that are running this world.
And dont give me this prove it crap, Ive done the research, if you want to find out get up off your ass and do it yourself.

I believe Aspartame is horrible for your body too. I can just sense it without even having to read much up on it. Why else would it have to be separated from the rest of the contents of a food? It's even in it's own category!

Um, no...those are ALL illnesses linked to BEING OLD!!! We're just living long enough these days that ONE of those HAS to kill us eventually. Jeez people...

I've seen the research too, and it's crap. I'm out of here (work) right now, but tomorrow we can go round and round if you guys wish. So present me a nice list of peer reviewed research, and we can go over it all, k? I'm looking forward to it...

Have to reply to this one real quick, PKU is a matabolic disorder which is diagnosed at birth in which the body can't properly break down phenylalanine, an ESSENTIAL amino acid. PKU is NOT caused by aspartame.
