Dammit!!!!

I wanted to be logical... But she refuses to spin counterclockwise for me.... I blame it on the dancer...

Even worse my Girlfriend did the test with me and she can see it going both directions. Anyways... this test just gave us a nice little discussion...

now i want to punch the computer screen!

I got it turn both ways, I just look at the shadow, but the first time I saw it was turning clock-wise. Then again, I'm lefthanded which means right-brained.

Although, doesn't anyone think it's RANDOM? Unless you're
using a webcam and knowing it by you and that site. I dunno,
I think another test of basic questions is a better method for something
like this -- still, I like the descriptions, like I said prior, don't have to
think about DaVinci's notebooks.... was seeing a mental therapist once
and they were like, "we still don't know all we can about the brain."

Interesting topic.

The wife and I see it spinning opposite directions simultaneously. Er, that is to say, we each see it spinning different directions.
No, thats not right either.

Um, Ok, I see it spinning one way, she sees it spinning the other, at the same time.
There, thats better.

Very weird!

Makes you wonder what else is going on around us that we see differently.

I think it might be something akin to an optical illusion, but based on symmetry of mind.*

Or yeah, it could be completely random - but it didn't change direction until i started making an effort to do so.

*That's the logic talking.

But isn't it actually spinning clockwise? Her Leg and hair , I mean the person who create this created it to turn clockwise? So what does that really say unless you see it counter clockwise. I can understand about focusing on a different part to make it change, but it IS actually going clockwise, so it doesn't really make much sense to me as I would imagine, both Right and Left brain thinkers would see the way it is actually going. I would think it ONLY says something if you see it going counter clock wise. ImHO

Crap now I cant go back to seeing it clockwise !!! lol You to away my imagination lol

Thanks that spinning image is wicked, ive only played with it for 2 minutes. First of all it was spinning anti clockwise and focusing on it going clockwise wasn't working, then I relaxed or something, I dont know yet but it made me laugh to see it suddenly change direction! not that it did. Funny thing the brain. Im going to play with this a bit longer. Great find! need more of these things.

Makes sense too. We all generally operate out of logic wanting details and facts and figures etc.. and seeing as earth spins anti clockwise so we constantly use our left brains.. this thing is funny.

Great little 'brain tuner'/twister!

OR.... as mentioned is it that the image does actually change? after a sequence which I cant be bothered to try and count

edit to add, exact same thread going on below, only a couple of hours earlier than this thread.

Always clockwise for me. I guess that means right-brain.. which I knew already. Given that her right leg is always raised and going forward, I can't see how she could possibly turn anticlockwise, being a gif image that's supposed to be a repeated amount of frames (i.e. how can the image possibly change?)?

The Ambidextrous Brain

Fascinating test!

When I first looked at the figure, I was in "mod mode" from reviewing several threads "as a mod". You know, being a Nazi and hassling the membership.

The figure clearly seemed to be going counter-clockwise, and stubbornly so, at that.

Then I considered what was going on and laughed, and the figure suddenly seemed to be going clockwise, and got stuck in that direction.

So I decided to check a few "mod mode" threads, and sure enough, she's back in counter-clockwise mode.

Conclusion: moderating forums does strange things to your brain.

hmmmm, when I first opened the link, she was spinning around anti-clockwise.
Then, my true self won and she started spinning clockwise.
I also got her to stop, or at least I thought it was me

(I'm left-handed, btw)

I just extracted all frames of the /gif and theres only 33 frames. And she does go round one way in a circle.. (either way you roll thru them left or right)

In a stand alone viewer she gos slower and i could only see it going left at first.. now I see her going right all the time at the moment, fast or slow. So its an illusion based on left / right brain frequency?

When I start reading she gos left again.. haha....

I'm like the most of the people here and can change it at will.

This makes me think...

I immediately and constantly saw it turning clockwise, not with all of my willpower I could make it turn. Then I called my wife.

She saw it turn anti-clockwise only. Just for a second I managed to do so too.

Now I always thought I was the rational, logic one ...and she was the emotional one. Hmrf... ???

Anyway reminds me of M.C. Escher's work of graphic illusion.

I sat there for several minutes, only able to see her turn clockwise. But after totally concentrating on her for a couple of minutes, I had her turning counter-clockwise (or anti-clockwise as it says).

Now, I'm able to move her clockwise and counter-clockwise at will. This is really cool! I can't wait to show it to people and see what they say!

Just shows us how are sense can easily be deceived and how we can also changed our perception of things just by concentrating.

Very very cool.

It's 50/50 for me. I have a little trouble changing the perspective while looking at it, but sometimes a blink is all it takes and it "switches". At first I couldn't imagine how it could go any other direction but counter-clockwise though.

It's the bobbing up and down that really does it. There's no depth to the image, but the bobbing gives the illusion of depth (ie. counter-clockwise and you notice the back of the head go up, clockwise, you notice the forehead go up). It gives the impression that certain parts of the body are closer and you get locked into a pattern.

Pretty cool.

Anti-clockwise? What the hell? I've always heard it termed as counter-clockwise. Whoever wrote that needs to switch me jobs, stat.

To make it change direction just look at one of her foot, don't look at the face or body, it will be much easier to make her change direction at your will.

Man, I need to post more on ATS, posted this thread in the chit-chat section in BTS with not much attention, no wonder why my points are so low, heheh. Are you right or left brained?

This is a real interesting illusion, I can make her spin both ways almost at will. My best friend can only make her spin right. Good find.

Cool link.

I looked at it twice. The first time it was clockwise the whole time. The second happened to first be counterclockwise, then after a few seconds switched over...(the page was still loading I don't know if that affected the outcome).

My girlfriend said she saw it clockwise.

I don't know if the facts are true for the left/right hemispheres as I exhibit a lot of both...I could just use both sides readily, which is a conclusion I and others have come to in the past.

I wonder what percentages Americans and other nations have? Probably mainly left brained people...Although we aren't a very logical race...Maybe we don't use either side, probably more of the reptilian part of our brain (aka primitive). FIGHT OR FLIGHT!
It seems the mass of humanity is stuck in survival mode and won't be coming out anytime soon, much to the detriment of this planet.

I'd be interested to take similar quizzes on this subject...(Off to find some
).
