Phantom vibrations shake 'crackberry' addicts

www.cnn.com

Many mobile phone addicts and BlackBerry junkies report feeling vibrations when there are none, or feeling as if they're wearing a cell phone when they're not.

I just tripped over this little story and found it very interesting.

Ya see... I suffer from this. I'm not a heavy cell user (although I did just recently get a new phone/toy and upgraded plan) and I don't own a Blackberry. I do not, however, have a standard land line, so aside from messengers and e-mail it is my communications tool.

Over the last few weeks I've noticed more and more often that I would get the sensation of vibration even though I knew my phone wasn't ringing... or not even in my pocket! I thought this was quite odd, but passed it off as "just one of those things" and didn't give it much thought. Now that I've read this article, I wonder just how many people suffer from "phantom vibrations".

Do you?

That's a bit strange. One thing I have noticed for a long time is that often, while sitting at home or the office with my mobile phone close by, I sense it is going to ring a moment before it actually does so. I have even found myself shifting my gaze from the Pc to my mobile phone or reaching for it before it rings.
I must be somehow tuned in and subconsciously able to detect "something"

Hey, I get the same thing too, I have on numerous occasions even picked up my phone to call someone only for it to ring as I dial, also on a similar note sometimes I think of someone (usually a family member I’ll add) then they call me.

What originally made me read this thread is that I keep my phone in my trouser pocket whilst driving so I can feel it vibrate when it rings as it is often hard to hear it over the engine, I use a Bluetooth headset to answer it and I often feel it vibrating when it is not, this happens several times a day only when the phone is actually in my pocket though, I had never really thought about it alternatively until now.............. Strange indeed.

There's a pretty sizable energy burst that precedes the actual ringing of the phone. That's probably what you sense. To illustrate, put the cell phone next to an AM radio and dial the number.

Wow, I'm glad I'm not the only one..

I'm far from a heavy cell phone user, but it's usually right by my side.
It's comforting knowing I'm not going crazy when I can 'sense' my phone
about to ring.

Those phantom vibrations are a little different though...
I only get those in the left leg, or specifically near the pocket where I
usually carry my phone. It's really freaky sometimes, because my phone
won't even be in my pocket. You can imagine how annoying it can be,
especially at work.

I wonder how we are sensitive to such "sizeable energy bursts".
I've experienced the "cell-phone-near-the-speaker-effect", but is
it normal to be able to 'sense' that energy burst?

Most of us here seem to be experiencing this..

I recall getting this when I was a teenager and always had my phone on me. These days though it's a prepaid and usually turned off, so I don't experience the sensation.

Repeated exposure over time can cause brain sensitivity to the phone's frequencies. I've even read one report which I am not motivated to source stating a warming of the cerebellum could be measured. If the sensation is accompanied by the routine pinging of the phone it wouldn't surprise me. If however the sensation is when the phone is completely off, battery removed, that would be interesting.

I almost didn't want to ready this topic because I am a "Crackberry User".

I thought I was losing my marbles at times because of phantom vibrations, etc., but now I know that I am not the only one.

Thanks for the post and story.

I also have felt this, and I'm glad I now know I'm not goin crazy.

Because of this, I've been trying to keep my phone on the opposite side of the room whenever possible. Good find BitRaiser

It's hard to tell how much it affects us. But when you think of all the new radiation in so many forms that we have been subjected to in the past 20 years or so of technologial developments, it's got to have some effect on our equilibrium.

I have noticed lately that I will start singing the song I have for my ringer tone right before it rings.

Also with the speaker effect I will get the sound out of the speaker at least once an hour when the phone doesn't even ring. Any ideas on the signal coming thru to the speakers, yet no phone call?

Since my last post on this subject around two weeks ago when I stated that I have phantom vibrations when my phone is in my pocket, I have noticed that quite often I get the vibration when my phone is not in my pocket even sometimes when I have left it at home.

Interesting train of thought coming from this thread, nice one OP.

I am also effected by the phanton ringing vibes.

Always the left leg, around the pocket area.

Since reading this thread, I have been carrying my phone in my front pocket, only thing I get now is

Good Vibrations!

Mind you I also have sciatica so that could have something to do with it!
