Sex and marriage with robots? It could happen

www.msnbc.msn.com

Humans could marry robots within the century. And consummate those vows.

"My forecast is that around 2050, the state of Massachusetts will be the first jurisdiction to legalize marriages with robots," ...Levy recently completed his Ph.D. work on the subject of human-robot relationships, covering many of the privileges and practices that generally come with marriage as well as outside of it.

Wow. we have to start being politically correct to robots now.

I wonder if my husband will get mad if I go ahead and order one for the house.

Too bad Honda, Sony and other robot corps won't give you another AI 9 months after "the act" lol. I think it would be great, men could finally understand cyber women and real women would become like guys (no power over the other sexes emotions OR bodies). The NWO would be happy as most guys would be at home and the population would go down.

There would be less dishonest guys as well.

It's interesting that we are already considering laws to allow marriage of a human to an inanimate object, but homosexuals can't get married in most states? Is there some sort of philosophical significance there, such as, most people can relate to machines better than other human beings?

Call me old fashioned, but I'll chuck the talking toaster and keep looking for Mrs. Right.

I dunno... I think Massachusetts already has a law that covers this:

"Section 16. The issue of a marriage declared void by reason of nonage, insanity or idiocy of either party shall be the legitimate issue of the parent who was capable of contracting the marriage."

Despite the high probability of being bobbitized, I'll take a Milla Jovovich fembot please.

I donno...
Ticked off real girlfriends are scary enough.
Can you imagine the damage that could ensue in the path of a jilted robo-chick?
Hell hath no furry...

This is absurd. Humans can't even marry their own same-sex race, and there are people who think it'll be legal to marry appliances (Joe's Garage, anyone?) within a few decades? Rubbish, rubbish, rubbish.

Would that it weren't rubbish, though.

If MIT genuises were to manufacture Ikobo (Ikoba? I forget which--yet I pine for her) girls I'd purchase and marry one in seconds (with the caveat that they were warm & soft).

Wow--and wouldn't it be awesome if they could be molded after someone you had shanks for? Damn, I might buy two (one'd have to be the maid or something)!

This theme has been put forth in anime ... Hand Maid May actually claims procreation of a robot and a human. Mahoromatic in the end, a robot and a human end up together. Chobits, a robot and a human fall in love.

This idea is quite common in some cultures and circles. I think some like the idea of unconditional love they believe would exist with a robot spouse. The problem lies in, if they have free will, and considered an independent entity allowing marriage, then, they also have every right to divorce you and leave as well. I guess AI might be as unique as the human individual, and the same interpersonal problems may arise ... that is, unless it is programmed a certain way.

I do have an interesting idea ... for all those spousal abusers (male and female) put the with a robot ... let them try to hit it one good time and see what happens

I am not against it, I may even consider it ... I would be in my 70s by then ... it might be a nice companion, though I don't think the naughty stuff will be on my mind

That would be just about the end of the human race ... men and women creating their ideal physical mate and programming the perfect personality. It sure is better than dieing from a nuclear winter and radiation poisoning

ha ha ha ha

I love this idea.....please tell me where's the nearest point of call to trade in my wife?

Then again, I dont know how exciting it would be for the "old fella" down stairs rubbing up against cold metal?????

Maybe they could have a pre-heat system built in???

Finally, men all over the world would have a partner that they could 'turn on' by simply pushing 'the right button'!

Hell, thered only be one button.......YEE HAAA

But on a serious note, atleast we wouldnt have the need for Islam to persecute women, for the robotic spouse would do whatever you programmed them to.......do you think we would have to cover up the robotic spouses head too??????

Oh, I can just see the do-gooders getting upset with this posting.....c'mon wheres your sense of humour!

Bring it on.

I'll take two

Ah... you haven't really thought this through have ya.
You're a computer owner (obviously).
How many times has your computer done something you really didn't want it to do? Had itself a little temper tantrum. Pitched a fit 'n wouldn't do a damned thing you told it to.
Now apply that sort of behavior to a super complex robot.

You think you're wife is tough to deal with?

Wait until she runs on a Microsoft operating system!!

Aside from that, just imagine:

"Warning, invalid use of recharge socket"
*ZOT*
ow ow ow ow OW!!!

This reminds me of the Futurama episode where Frye made a Lucy Liu fembot. Apparently, humanity lost interest in the opposite sex and failed to procreate, signifying the end of mankind. This happening a day before aliens came to Earth and destroyed everything

So what did we learn from that episode? Yes, that a Lucy Liu fembot would be awesome!

On a serious note, I don't see any laws allowing marriage between humans and robots (at least not here in the US), because if it were allowed, the so called "definition of marriage" being between a "man and a woman" would have to change. And it's not going to change for a long time, if not ever because congress would have to include homosexuals in the marriage bill, which is something fundamentalist are not willing to allow them to do.

Actually computers do exactly what they are told exactly how they are told. If there is ever a problem, it is one caused by a human. Which human is the only question.

Everybody just keep in mind this is just a snippet of somebody's doctoral thesis. There are many doctoral thesises out there with all sorts of wacky ideas in them. Most of them end up collecting dust in some library and hardly ever see the light of day.
