I live roughly 50 miles South of Chicago and as most people know in the Chicago are there are two major airports (Midway and O'Hare). I have noticed where I live an increase in flights I see flying overhead. They almost always fly North to South. However, on more than one occasion I've seen black military helicopters fly South then back North. Last week I saw a few extremely low flying large jets. However, I don't know if these were military or not. Now I've lived in this area my entire 25 years and its completely normal to see aircraft flying South overhead (alot of aircraft). What isn't normal is the large low aircraft and black helicopters. In my area (Kankakee County) we have a very very small airport and it does host an airshow once are year and this is not what I'm describing. The last time I saw the large jets fly overhead I ran inside to get my camera but didn't get back inside in time to get a good shot so that aircraft experts can identify. I'll try to describe the aircraft the best I can. The jet had two jet engines on both wings and the wings were sweeping back. It looked alot like an Airbus A120 that I flew on one time. The helicopters are black and look like transport type choppers and I see two or three at a time. Sometimes they fly South then back North. When they flied overhead you know it too because they are low and extremely loud. I just thought I would see if anyone in the area has noticed the same or had an explanation or any thoughts. Also, in Illinois there are a few Military Bases though none are very close to me. There is Scott AFB which is near St. Louis and Great Lakes Naval. Here is a link to bases in Illinois.

Gee, maybe if I posted a topic about reptilians or some other BS I would get some discussion. I thought this was a discussion forum, but I guess it has turned into a place for people to post hoaxes and ^*&$ from tabloid magazines.

yea, geez what's goin on here I don't get on for a couple of weeks and there's a ton of crazy #. I live in Nebraska, every spring our air guard runs about a week of drills, this year they ran about three weeks in drills. Ever since then I have definitely noticed a big increase in suspect air traffic. I swear about once a week I see a couple of Chinooks in a day, all definitely military.

I know either the past week or this coming week, their are massive drills across the country.

If you really wanna decipher the aircraft you see try and find the Navy manual on ground to air aircraft identification.

thanks for the reply. I'm glad I'm not the only one who notices. I always watch the sky anyway, my wife thinks I'm just paranoid but she has even asked what I think all the low flying aircraft and choppers are doing. I've got a camera on the back porch now and I'm going to try to get a pic of the helicopters next time they fly by but they go buy so fast and I live in a neighborhood w/ lots of trees so I don't have alot of time. Maybe someone else can get a picture for comparison and then someone who know can tell what these aircraft are used for. Are they for moving equipment or for troops. Also, why is there so much activity? What drills?

By EILEEN SULLIVAN

I saw someone post that article on here but I didn't know tha it was from a legit source. It was in a thread about the US telling Russia we were going to full war footing or something. But that would explain all the increased activity. Its amazing that in such a small town like mine with now military bases or airports to speak of that we see an increase in military activity. This must be a huge drill.
