Strange Object Spotted in Sky Over Iowa and Minnesota

action3news.com

A flaming object over Minnesota and Iowa skies on Wednesday afternoon may have been a meteor.

People from the Twin Cities to northwest Iowa reported seeing a "metallic" object or "flaming ball" falling from the sky. Broadcasters and emergency dispatchers got hundreds of calls from people who saw the object traveling from the northeast to the southwest.

One witness said the object shook his house and sounded like a sonic boom.

Speculation is a meteor and no crash site has been reported yet.

One professor said that a chunk of meteor can make a sound like thunder.

I am checking to see if anyone might have videotape the fireball.

I haven't had any success yet in looking for pics/vids of the sighting but I did find a Minnesota report which had a quirky sentence.

LINK

...At 3:15 p.m. the FAA had no reports of anything falling from any airplanes in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. The debris that fell on Interstate 94 on Wednesday was an unrelated incident

Unrelated debris falling on the interstate?

Maybe nothing but it did seem strange.

How could a pallet falling off of a truck ever be associated with possible meteor debris?

In this article it describes the debris as a wooden pallet.

Fireball seen in sky across Minnesota was meteorite

...And State Patrol officials are confident that the potential meteor did not transmogrify into a wood pallet that caused a minor disruption to drivers in Rogers. "It fell off a vehicle," patrol spokesman Mark Peterson said of the pallet, which was soon removed from Interstate 94 near Highway 101.

Somehow, early reports connected the highway debris to the natural firework show. Not "unless aliens are using pallets to drop on us," Peterson said with a laugh...

Police Disinfo? or A rumor gone wild?

It is still too early to be able to determine what this object that fell was. Do I believe it fell from a truck? No, I simply do not. What are the chances of this object flying over this highway, and a truck dropping a pallet on the same highway?
I believe this object could be a meteor, because it has the same charecteristics, and description as one.

It could have been a meteor, but the experts don't know that yet and they are the one's who said it was probably a meteor.

The debris story still seems strange, and how the police guy laughed it off raises my antenna.

I still haven't found any pics or video on the fireball yesterday so this one will most likely fade away.

It would be nice to get confirmation of a meteor not just expert speculation.

I wonder if this is somehow linked the the metorite that "landed" in Peru a couple of weeks ago..

Peace.

I always find it strange how they use the terms "landed" to describe a meteor crashing into the ground

Ya, I liked the 'unrelated debris' in highway too. Bet it got cleaned up real quick too.
