Top defence manufacturers of the year 2007

www.defensenews.com...

I was really amazed to see Indian Hindustan Aeronautics Limited above Mig and other Russian Manufacturers even above French Dassault, Israeli Elbit.

I hope this is a true and valid list

Looks legit enough to me. From what I've gathered, Dassault's been losing money hand-over-fist with the Eurofighter and Airbus projects. As for MiG, they just made their first new aircraft since '89, I think they are getting eclipsed by Sukhoi.

*dons asbestos suit*

Im not all that surprised esp with Dassault. Dassault is by and large a French government jobs program. Despite a huge chunk being owned by EADS (which is also at the whim of the EU) it pretty much has its strings pulled by whomever is in charge of France.

One thing to factor in with Russian aviation: over the last few years there has been alot of consoladation within thier industry. Some on its own some forced by Putin to pay of political debts. Thier business will pick up as the Russian coffers fill with oil and NG money and these firms should grow. However, you may not see many huge sales of Flanker derivitives anytime soon.

Also many companies also have civilian sales as well.

Dassault has nothing to do with Eurofighter.

No but how can be Hindustan Aeronautics Limited be above all these established aircraft makers????????

HAL is still to roll out its 2nd aircraft Tejas. Ist being HAL Marut wasn't very impressive

HAL Dhruv is ok but is in the phase of being inducted in IAF.

Future seems bright for HAL with LCA, MCA, LCH, ALH projects..........but at this stage it beating dassault etc is a bit indigestible

The bloated defense budget of the U.S. of A. can be a beautiful thing if you're a contractor...

I find no one has anything to add on HAL.

Sorry for hammering around HAL

But I'm really interested to know about that.

Can anyone here provide any details about that.

I guess big manufacturers have outsourced the manufacturing of some parts and this is the way HAL has come up.

Any takers on that????//

The convoluted ownership arrangements of companies, particularly those in defence where there has been a significant amount of consolidation does not prove anything, take a look at MDBA.

The fact is Dassault has bugger all to do with the Eurofighter consortium, so their balance sheet would not be effected by that project.

Can anyone tell me the politics going on in Eurofighter.

Means it has been built by BAE Systems, EADS and Alenia Aeronautica under Eurofighter GmbH which was founded in 1986.

But EADS only is bidding for 126 MRCA deal.

Source

Can anyone give me the insight in Eurofighter GmbH???

Means how much stake does the each manufacturer has in Eurofighter GmbH??

And what all is going on in there???

A lot of graft and corruption and pro-pan-European "nationalistic" propaganda, is what's going on in there, if you ask me.

When someone owns 46% of your company and their project tanks, it's bound to affect you one way or the other.

I will also graciously admit that the Eurofighter doesn't suck as much as I originally thought.

The list is as legit as it can be, I am very familiar with a few of them.

BTW ITT bought EDO in recent weeks.

Yes, it may affect the company. Or not, depends on the way Dassault is integrated. But your original statement was that Dassault lost money "hand over fist" on the Typhoon and Airbus. Dassault however has NOTHING to do with both companies - at least not as a primary manufacturer.

Dassault Aviation is just that - a more or less independent manufacturer with an independent product line. Its absolutely no wonder that it doesnt place high on such a chart.

And also, none of the projects have "tanked" as you put it - the Eurofighter, currently, is the most successful and financially strong western fighter program. It may be classed 2nd once production contracts for the Lightning II are done ... but until then the F-35 is just a promising prototype concept. The A380 has an excellent long-term business perspective; the A350, after the known design changes, has had 240 orders placed in the last 15 months alone... thats already 1/3th of the firm Boeing 787 orders, and more orders than the 787 had in its first 15 months.

Why not just check the Website of Eurofighter GmbH?

Development shares:
Alenia Aeronautica.......21%
BAE Systems..............33%
EADS CASA................13%
EADS Deutschland.......33%

Production shares (corresponding to the airframes ordered by each nation):
232 for the UK.........37%
180 for Germany.....30%
121 for Italy............19%
87 for Spain............14%

So this means EADS CASA and EADS Deutschland combined have 46 % shares and so is the largest partner so that is the reason it is bidding for 126 Indian MRCA deal.

Did I get that right or is it either of the EADS is individually bidding for the deal.

My question is why not Eurofighter GmbH bidding for the deal???

The Eurofighter GmbH is only concerned with managing development and production of the aircraft itself. The four partnering companies, along with their respective governments, can offer the aircraft as their own product.

Lets say EADS scores the deal, then it will order the Eurofighter GmbH to work out the technical details, and then the Eurofighter GmbH would in turn hand over the work to the companies - including EADS as sort of a technical subcontractor of itself. That is how it was explained to me once.

The Saudi Arabia deal for example was made by BAe Systems and BAe acts as the prime contractor.
