Gated community in Missouri only allows 100% caucasian

There is a gared community here is the state of Missiouri called lake wauwanoka whose bi laws state that you can only be admitted if your 100% caucasian, now while the community doesnt abide by this anymore these was passed back in 1942 by the developer of the land and they have since taken it to the supreme court and they said it cannot be changed unless a 100% vote is passed by the community and that has yet to happen. i find it apalling as i have first learned of this on the news tonite and if your look for a post try this link www.myfoxstl.com... the story broke on here and they should update the site to carry the details within the next few hours.

That link didn't work for me. Furthermore, this policy is clear racial discrimination in housing and is therefore illegal.

There are plenty worse real laws still technically on the books but have been made illegal by court rulings and/or federal law. As long as it's not being implemented, I don't see what the big deal is.

of course the community stated that legally the bilaw cant be enforced nor can it be legally changed without that vote and the disturbing part is that the community is half against it and half for it so there it stays

I thought this was shocking but after finding some demographics of the area in which this community is in it isn't as shocking.

White population: 12,951
Black population: 49
American Indian population: 44
Asian population: 31
Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander population: 1
Some other race population: 27
Two or more races population: 103

I haven't run a percentage calculation but it does look overwhelmingly white.

Not that this is uncommon in other areas of the country.

All I know is for my 41+ years of life,

I have never been in a community/town/city with these numbers...

I also found a housing study word file for Jefferson county, MO 2004 which shows much of the same.

The law from 1942 might explain the demographics of today.....

I don't know enough about the area to pass judgement, I am just providing some info on the area in question.

The law may have no force in the courts, but it is probably reality on the streets. Those ethnic statistics are ridiculous; I bet a lot of nonwhites are quite simply too intimidated to make the move. Looks like a racist community, IMHO.

What about "native american" reservations, how does that sit with you

There were many bylaws and amendments to neighborhood associations that barred any minority and ethnic groups from home purchases throughout the USA. (Land of the FREE) All these laws have been found unconstitutional and unenforcable.

To remove this language from the titles of land requires action from the home owners association and it takes money to do this. Lots of money for the research and then court actions for changing official records. Many people consider this frivolous and not worth the effort nor the cost.

Now for the demographics of some areas of Missouri. If a person was to look elsewhere in the USA, you would find near 100% blacks in parts of the south and 100% Hispanic in parts of Florida and the southwest parts of the country. It's just not a white issue in Missouri. I even hear there is nearly 100% Native Americans on some parcels of land. We're ALL Americans, so what...

Does anyone know what the crime statistics are for that area? I think it would be interesting to see.

It sucks to live there, they have big meth problems in the whole county. Most people are poor, not really any good jobs. In the last ten years they have made improvements to the highway that goes through there, highway 21, used to be know as Death Ally, they have also rebuild interstate 55, to try to promote economic growth in this county.

Its been labeled as a hick town full of red-necks and drug addicts.

Oh I'm sure this gated place is nice, but not much of anything else. Its weird, St Louis, St Louis County, and St. Charles County to the north, are doing really well lots of jobs and growth, but not to the south of the city. The terrain could have something to do with this, its like part of the Ozark Mountain foothills its Real Hilly.

I don't know anything about this little town being talked about with an old law from 1942 which isn't enforced by the way...........per the article above. If people are offended by the law then it should be taken off the record.

There are lots of old ridiculous laws still on the records and we could start a thread to laugh at them.

But I live in Missouri and the areas I have lived in and currently live in are far from white power racist places. Not saying such places don't exist, I have never experienced that slice of the midwest, though.

As a matter of fact I would guess that whites are a minority overall.

Just saying because the stereotypes that are derived from opening statements on threads when you don't get the whole picture can really effect a persons perception.

I just dont see what the big deal is. If they are not enforceing it then WHO CARES - or WHY CARE? Sounds like someone was bored and needed some attention. If they were trying to enforce it, then I can see where there would be an issue.

I mean, seriously, there are sex laws on the book that are ridiculous. Yet people still do them and nothing happens. For example, my husband is in the military, and according to military code there is only ONE acceptible sexual position. This is very common in many states too. Old Old Old laws on the books, that are not enforced and most dont even know about them.

These stipulations on plats are nothing unusual for the era they were written in unfortunately. I remember seeing plats for a subdivision in my hometown in Illinois that barred blacks from owning property in it. I was working in the mortgage section of a bank at the time. I'm not sure whether the plats were written in the 1920s or 1940s now, because it's been a while since I've seen them.

I live in Delaware and our friends lived in a development that was constructed during the 50s. I read there deed and it restricted all non-whites. It was clear that there were a few non-whites living in the development and the civic association was not enforcing the rule. Interesting though.

I haven't posted in quite a while as I became sick of some of the crap I read in here, but congrats!! you earned my most ignorant post EVER award with your statement above. Racism is alive and well in this country today and comments like yours above brings an ill feeling to my stomach. The civil rights movement was just a few decades ago, YES we still need aid programs for minorities to even the playing field. QUIT whining!!! My god you people are selfish.

I think it says more about the community that they haven't taken the steps to change the bylaws. That it is possibly not 'legal' to enforce, but it sure shows people of color that they really are not welcome there, and if they come there to live, they better realize who their 'boss' is.

I think it is disgusting, and I think that the people who are marching for the Jena6 should stop in this town on their way home, and protest the bylaw, and those who are not willing to change. Where is Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson...?

Man, know what we should do?

Bus some of those whities outa there, send them to the "hood" and then bus some blacks into the newly vacant houses so that it can be a racial utopia of equal blacks and whites!

By the way, if there was a group of, say, blacks or whites or mexicans that wanted to live with their own people, that is THEIR choice, and in this free country the federal government has no right to say other wise. Morally wrong? Sure, but again, we are a nation that is not supposed to subject beliefs onto another people. I wonder why so many people declare a community racist because the over whelming population is white.. there are plenty of town 80%+ hispanic or black.
