It seems many people haven't heard about the various ways to send your name into space.

deepimpact.jpl.nasa.gov...

Enter your name here and it will make it out into space. Mines already on mars twice and on the cassini/huygens probe which will land on Saturn.

Fellow ATS'ers. Join me on this flight!!!

(and let me know you have or already have by posting here, I'd be interested to see how many we get!)

zzub, may I ask what's the point of sending your name into space??

A valid question, but what's the point of anything? it makes me happy, which is enough for me to want to do this.

Obviously, I am alone in the fascination with space.

What's the point of not doing it? It makes me part of something larger. It also assures that something of me will exist long after I die and return to the dirt.

Oh well.

I think it's a really cool idea. I, myself, didn't realize we had this option available. Thanks for posting the link, Zzub!

oh zzub, i didn't mean it like that!!!

I thought, there was actually something more to it...my bad....

i totally understand, it like leaving stuff in cornerstones of buildings and things like that...which is all cool.

worldwatcher, hey no problems,. I over-reacted, I didn't mean to turn on you. I had just tried to explain what the point is to my wife, who didn't even want to look up to seet the website. Also, my co-workers (brainless drones) found this boring and the loss of the rover amusing. (I could have gone postal quite easily).

Forgive me, it's been a long day.

>>name of my friend's wife who passed away yesterday

I'm really Sorry to hear that, my condolences. And here I am going on about my problems

See, the problem is that when we send our names into space, the aliens can ask our neighbors for us by name so they can anally probe us!

No, I love space also!

Put my name on board. Thanks for the information about this name project.

I wish my name was on mars like yours. The disc (DVD-ROM?) that my name is on will be destroyed by the impact.

If I remember correctly, I think that there was an option for this about four years ago. I remember - I did it with my friend, and I actually think that I had submitted to Beagle 2. Sod! Oh, well I guess us Brits lost our multi-million trash-can lid along with all our names...

Very many thanx for the great link Zzub - I've entered four names (for the family) and emailed both some students and a friend too, so there might be a BIG CD!!

Cheers!

I've put my name down and printed my certificate.
As a member of the ATS SETI group I'm trying to find a signal from space. It's kind of good to also send something of me out there even if it is just my name.

You're not the only one. It is one of my dreams to be up in space.
