"The basic approach is wrong ... many marriages last just because people believe they are safe," she told reporters. "My suggestion is that marriages expire after seven years."

After that time, couples should either agree to extend their marriage or it should be automatically dissolved, she said.

Yeah well I don't know if the divorce rate is high in Germany like it is in the USA, but this idea would probobly increase the divorces, or break ups. It just seems like they are making it easier to break up families.

I'm going through one of the worst divorces in history. It ought to be easy to leave if it's bad. I think a renewable contract is a great idea.

It's better that two people who can't stand each other break up so that the kids don't see the nasty fighting every day. As Dr. Phil says, it's better to be FROM a broken home than live in one.

My god, I agree with MM..totally..
Same situation for me..It is so much easier to get into a marriage than get out of one...The seven year mark is right about when my marriage started to go down....
I'm all for a contract....give me a paper to sign....
Save a lot of time and energy...but of course there may be a few unemployed lawyers...
