It actually is the intent of the image, Chissler.

This little girl is from the Darfur region of Sudan. Instead of pain and suffering, as in many images from the region, you see strength and courage, amongst other things.

She is beautiful. She is strong.



The photographer who took this, Finbarr O'Reilly, has a penchant for capturing strength through portraiture, and has done so in many tragic African landscapes. This remains one of my favorites, however, even before he told me the story behind it.
