ALL ALONG THE WATCHTOWER: song title of the epic masterpiece of music written by Bob Dylan and covered masterfully by Jimi Hendrix and countless others.

The Watchtower that inspired young Bob Dylan was the Witch's Hat Tower in Prospect Park, Minneapolis, MN. Bob Dylan attended college at the University of MN which is close to the watchtower. The watchtower can be seen overlooking much of Minneapolis.

This is a little known fact about the song lyrics, and Bob Dylan. I just discovered this a few months ago.

AllSeeing, how did you come about this fact, as you state it?

I'm a great fan of Dylan since 40 years back, and the song is one of my absolute favorites.

"let's not talk falsely now/the hour is getting late"

You saw that tower and conclude so?

Seeing the picture, I would tend to believe you.

Others put it as a biblical reference.

Actully I lived withing blocks of this tower and the Univ of MN. It is Dylan lore around here. Also I beleive they mention the tower as the likely inspiration for the song on WIKI.

Wiki Snippet:
Prospect Park - The neighborhood contains the highest natural point in the city of Minneapolis, on which stands the "Witch's Hat" water tower. The water tower is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is often claimed that this water tower was part of the inspiration for Bob Dylan's song "All Along the Watchtower", although this is hard to substantiate.
