190+ protestors arrested in Washington

Several thousand anti-war demonstrators marched through downtown Washington on Saturday, clashing with police at the foot of the Capitol steps where more than 190 protesters were arrested.

The group marched from the White House to the Capitol to demand an end to the Iraq war. Their numbers stretched for blocks along Pennsylvania Avenue, and they held banners and signs and chanted, "What do we want? Troops out. When do we want it? Now."

Now, i'm not an American, but we've had our protests here in Australia too, most recently at APEC.

I don't know the details of the arrests, but 190 sure does sound like a lot. Overkill policing again?

Don't people have a right to protest or something? I remember reading that somewhere??? Something about freedom of speech... Maybe I misinterpreted it, you are free to say what we tell you too through TV. Silly me.

So what's next?? AH-64 Gunships to patrol the highways? Assault Rifles instead of normal sidearms???
