I sincerely doubt it has anything to do with dark matter. That cannot be directly observed, because it does not interact with light or any other
electromagnetic radiation. It's still hypothetical, they aren't sure what it is or if it even exists.
The article spoke of possible volcanic causes, which makes sense. I guess we'll just have to wait and see if they can come up with some better
explanations.
